Some of you may know from earlier posts that I hurt my back somehow a few weeks ago and the doc said it was probably inflammation of the sacrum joint. I have modifed my workouts and don't do anything that causes much pain but a little over a week ago, I pulled something stepping off a curb and could hardly stand up straight. Doc said muscle spasms after looking at x-rays because my spine was so straight. It was completely gone within about 6 days but needless to say, I didn't work out for 2 days and have only done weight work since. My next cardio day is scheduled for Sat. I feel like a BLOB and it's been SOOOOOOOO hard to not do the cardio. What I want to know is am I still burning fat/calories in an amount that would even matter from just the weight work? I did PUB this morning and am fighting not to do a cardio tonight (B&G is tomorrow). I see a chiro next Tues about the joint thing and don't want to overdo it before then.

Thanks

Kim

You are still burning calories, maybe not as many as when you do cardio.. ( depending on how long and how intense your cardio workouts are)... I wear my heart rate monitor for all my workouts and I can burn 300+ with some weight workouts. Please be careful with any back injury... I had 10 months of agony with a herniated disk and surgery was the only option.. so if you can get better with some rest from cardio, do it!

Kim,

Have you tried a walking program? My dh really injured his back years ago, and his doctor said the best thing for his back would be moderate walking. To this day, when his back starts to bother him, he starts walking a few miles a day and does the YMCA's back stretching program twice a day, and in a few days he usually feels better.

Hope you feel better soon. I'd be ready to climb the walls if I couldn't do cardio.

I have just started back to working our after 4 weeks due to a muscle spasm in my back and shoulder. Take time to heal. Don't worry about the time off because you are doing your body more harm if you push yourself. I only did light stretching two time per day if I could manage it. Also, I tried harder to eat clean and a little less than I did when working out 6 days per week. Good luck and feel better. Melissa

Thanks. I was going to do B&G this morning but couldn't make myself get up. I'll try it later after work. I'm trying not to puch myself but I have to do something! Hopefully the dr on Tues can shed some light on everything.
