One Smart Mouse!!!

So DH realized that we had a mouse. He sets the snap trap and puts it behind the garbage can with a piece of bread on it a few days ago.
Nothing was happening...

This morning he goes to check the trap and it is GONE! The entire trap had disappeared and TRUST me, I did NOT move it and it was not someplace where my dog or my son could have gotten to it.

So DH is running around the house with a flashlight for 10 mins this morning looking for this trap! LOL He finally finds in under the baseboard, behind the couch in the living room. The mouse was caught but get this...he dragged the entire trap across the house w/th bait in it. The trap finally got stuck under the baseboard so I guess that's when Mr. Mouse decided to try his luck. He grabbed the bait and actually almost escaped! He was only caught by the tail and was still alive and kickin' when DH found him! LOL DH let him loose outside and told him never to come back. :7 :7 :7

We are completely amazed this this little guy was able to do all of that and still managed to make it out alive! I guess he deserves to live after such an effort, ey?

Wendy, if you have one mouse then you have a clan. There is no such thing as one house mouse! Trust me. Set out more traps and use peanut butter for bait. I've also heard of tying down a piece of meat with dental floss.

Getting a cat(s) works too! We live in the woods, and with two cats who are good mousers, we still catch occasional mice in traps.

PS- That reminds me of some fantastic children's books with mice as characters. They are based in Washington DC. One is the Whitehouse mouse. The illustrations are very detailed and accurate as to the actual buildings. Joey is a bit small yet, but keep thm in mind for later. You will keep them long past his childhood.

GREAT STORY!!!!!!!!! Gotta say I'm VERY happy when mice, deer, pigs, flys, mosquitos get away ! Sounds like your little guy DESERVED a chance at a good life outdoors! I wonder if the trauma will affect his behavior in the future? Hope it wasnt just a really wild game to him or he'll be bring over lots of his friends to play too!:7

My DH thought maybe my dog would help out but we learned quickly last time that he does not care AT ALL! He is utterly useless! LOL

That series of books sounds familiar. I'll bet I saw them or had them growing up at some point as well.

I know what you mean about being happy when they get away. I hate the snap traps. Last season when we got our first mouse I tried to convince DH to get the live traps so we catch it and set it free in a land far far away. LOL DH would have done it except that there is no where for us to let it go around here that he wouldn't just end up in another home. DRAT! We heard that trap go off last year and I was immediately sick to my stomach. :-(

Traci, I used to think the same thing until my house became infested w/rodents this year. Mice might look cute but they're disgusting creatures that carry all kinds of viral diseases & other nasty bacteria.

I got a kitten when I woke up one morning & found mouse droppings on the pillow next to me.

I found out this morning Minnie hasn't solved my problem. They've just moved to the second floor. We're all pretty much living on the first floor b/c Cosmo can't take the stairs, but when I went upstairs to get ready for work there were droppings all over my dressing table. My guess is they've moved into the attic--the exterminator said they might b/c it's warmer & I have a lot of linens stored up there where apparently they like to nest.

<sigh> I hope Minnie gets brave enough to leave the kitchen someday soon.

Ms. Tig....you must get a kitty. I had a mouse problem a few years ago and when I acquired Jazzy she wiped out the whole family with her fuzzy and tenacious paws. Not only is she a killer but she is soft, fuzzy, and cuddly and tolerates the dog quite well. She's the coolest....
