ONE FOOT OF WATER IN MY BASEMENT!

At least. And the lovely creek which runs alongside my property is now IN my driveway. UGH! What a freaking mess! And it only started raining around 2 PM or so.

I guess it could be worse, though, the guy next door came over to see how we were doing and said there is at least FOUR feet in his basement. And the poor woman across the street looks like she is living in a lakehouse - you know, the kind in the middle of the ocean, on stilts.

We're in NE PA in case you're wondering.

Oh, how horrible Marie! That is some rain! WOW! I'll pray for a nice dry spell to follow!!

Out of curiousity - which part of PA? Near Scranton? I have relatives who live at Lake Walenpaulpak.

Marie, what a drag!! It has been raining here in CT for *days*. I have a small creek on my property...thankfully I live on a hill and it's at the bottom. How are you going to get it out?

Marie,

That is terrible! Did anything get ruined? That same system came thru here last night. It was terribly windy as well and a tornado warning was issued close to my mom and dad's house in Maryland. School was let out early there for that. School might be closed here tomorrow because alot of the streams have risen over the banks. I can't find my grill cover. I will look for it tomorrow. Flew away somewhere.

I am so sorry this happened to you. Does this happen to your basement every time it rains hard? Will the insurance cover the damage? I hope you get things back to normal. I hope there was not to much damage.

Marie, I'm so sorry you're having to deal with that. I've been there and it's no fun. I hope you don't have a finished basement, but even if you don't the cleanup is a big headache. I really feel for you. :(

Charlotte--Good luck finding your grill cover.

Ladies, thanks for all of your concern.

We are about 10 miles north of Scranton.

My basement isn't finished but my washer and dryer are down there as well as all of the removable pool parts (pumps, etc.) not to mention the FURNACE! Which is now about halfway covered with water. I have flood insurance BUT it does not pay for anything below the first floor. How they get away with writing that kind of policy is beyond me. (That's actually the federal form.) Hopefully my homeowner's will pick up something, but I'm skeptical. I can't be upset about it, I mean, I suppose it could be much worse. Ugh.

Thanks again. We are still missing a cat and my kids (who are so funny) think we need to fashion a boat so we can explore the deep recesses where no humans ever go. LOL (The cat will turn up, I am convinced he is houdini.)

{{{{{MARIE}}}}} I'll send up a prayer for you and I hope the rain stops soon! I'll say one for kitty while I'm at it;) . Robin posted in another thread that her basement is flooded, too:-( . We've had a lot of rain in Ohio--it rained all day and night yesterday and started up again this evening. There haven't been any reports of flooding that I'm aware of. Take care and be safe.

Marie,
Yikes, Our weather sure is changing isn't it? I live in the Pac. NW, and we are seeing record rains for November. And it isn't over yet. We just began our rainy season. Hang in there.

Hi Marie,
Yeah, that was one heck of a rainstorm. We only had a couple inches in our basement though. I hope the cat comes out of hiding soon. Ours got upset because the litter pan got moved upstairs, so they let us know by puking all over the livingroom rug. I was amazed at the creek levels as we drove to the hospital on route 80. We saw a couple houses that looked stranded too. I hope it isn't too tough a job to get cleaned out. Did you any trouble with the flooding last summer?

My heart goes out to you Marie, what is it about insurance adding insult to injury with the fine print switch? GRRRRRRR...x( Thank goodness for family and humour at times like these, kids have such a way of turning a crisis of this sort into an adventure. I hope things go as smoothly as is possible under the circumstances.

Take Care
Laurie:)

Again, I really appreciate everyone's well wishes.

My brother came over with his industrial-sized pump and we have about half of the water out now. He also turned off all of the gas lines (yikes, hadn't thought about that) and opened the dryer to find my new, 400-count sheets in there. UGH! That's what I get for always procrastinating on the *&! laundry. I had called the fire dept earlier tonight, and they showed up just now. Unfortunately I felt compelled to send them on merry way... too bad, nothing like a man in uniform when a damsel is in distress, eh?.

Anyway, according to my brother, everything should dry out and possibly only need minor repairs. I hope he is correct because the furnace is brand new... $6K new. Ugh.

Robin, we didn't have any problems last summer, other than some minor water. This is the first time I've ever had standing water that actually covered the entire floor.

Still no sign of the cat, but he's afraid of everything, so it may be days.

Water aerobics (ask Aquajock for some ideas).

But seriously, I'm sorry to hear this. Do you have a finished or an unfinished basement? My former department chair had flooding in his basement when he was out of town and his sump pumps quit. He lost several albums of irreplaceable photos and other valuable items. Hope you didn't lose anything of value. (Just make sure to get it dried out really well once the water is gone...mold and mildew love damp basements!)

I Know the mon river is flooded. I live close to Pittsburgh. We have been raining non stop, but, I live in the mountains and on a hill.
Water goes down. Basement only gets damp. I would cry.I had it once when a 3 yr old water heater blew. We now have it rigged up with a sump pump and overflow thingies so it doesn't happen again. My w/o room is down there.
Sometimes the fire dept. around here helps people. Can you get someone to come pump it?Or is the creek that high?
I am soo sorry for you. That would S**K.
