is it best to do an overhand or underhand grip? Also, is a wider grip better? I can do 3 on a good day but the last one is a struggle. I use an underhand close grip (14-16") Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks, Kay

If I understand correctly, the underhand grip is more of a chin-up and works the biceps more, whereas the overhand grip, with hands spaced a bit wider, is THE exercise for back and delts. I'm sure the educated crowd will correct me if I'm mistaken - at least I hope so!

The absolute ideal is to mix up - do all three. Each target a different area - close grip underhand hits biceps and rhomboids; standard overhand grip hits the back overall nicely; wide-grip you get the outer parts of the lats and the shoulders. Do the motions a few times real slowly just standing in place - no weights or bands or anything. Just do the arms and really think about where you're feeling the motion. You'll be able to feel the target areas. Variety - the spice of life (and a great physique)!
