OMG - do you feel it?

I go back August 14 and the children start on August 17. I'm a teacher and yes, I feel like my summer is over. I have a to do list I really should get started on to make that first week back a lot less stressful. But, the fall is my favorite season, although...it stays quite hot here in South Carolina for a long time.

No, no, say it ain't so!

I've been happily procrastination about preparing fall classes (I was going to work on them starting July 1st, then second week of July, and now, it will be August 1st---classes start the 21st).

I'm not ready!

The heat and humidity I can handle. Yes I'm rather sick because I somewhat enjoy it as I equate it with summer. (I actually feel really cleansed when I power walk or run in the heat and humidity, but I know I am in the small - or nonexistent - minority.) Much like the smell of a spring rain storm and the quiet sound of beautiful snow blanketing the cold, waiting ground. And I agree - there is nothing like the cool nights, crisp mornings, and warm fall days where you can wear shorts and a sweatshirt - love that. But it's the "laziness" that I hate to see rush away. Love letting the kids sleep in, go swimming when we get there, ride amusement park rides, enjoy a cool glass of wine with a spritz of lemon on a warm night where daylight seems to last forever, and kick back a little bit. I wait all year for it - and I love it. Aahhh - gotta hang on a bit longer.

I went into a department store yesterday to look for a bathing suit for a cruise I'm going on in October. What a joke that was. All that was left was a size 4 bright orange bikini and a large flowered-print-sofa-looking monstrosity. The store was filled with fall clothes and coats. The only reason I'm happy that summer is soon to end is that the college intern I have reporting to me will go back to school soon. I'll be happy to have that responsibility off my shoulders.

I don't have kids, I don't watch much TV, I avoid malls and I have to say it's been wuite nice missing all the hype...whether it is back to school, Halloween, Christmas (which now starts BEFORE Thanksgiving), etc etc. I will be enjoying my summer well though September and I hope it remains hot and steamy. I hate winter and were it not for family I would have been off to North Cakalaky or some other pseudo southern state years ago where they panic a the mere site of a snowflake.

Lorrie,
I'm with you - a power walk in the heat and humidity, now that's what I'm talking about! I love the summer months and the heat and unless it's really bad, yes, I even like the humidity. But those darn merchandisers have the seasons all screwed up. I mean who wants to even buy Halloween candy in July - won't it be rancid by October?

Even though here in CT you can tell the days are a little shorter, summer is definitely not over. I just keep telling DH (who HATES winter) that it's only eight and a half more months until spring!

I may be in the minority here, but I actually love the winter. I know, isn't that strange? Remind me again I said that in February sometime. :) I just like being wrapped up in home and hearth with the kids, unplanned snow days, sweaters that hide so many flaws... hehe.

The last thing I want to shop for in the 100 degree heat is a big fluffy sweater. I think this has gotten really out of hand.

It's a way of keeping consumers of a perpetual shopping cycle. Back to school and Halloween have started. Soon it will be Thanksgiving and by November 1 you will see xmas in all its glory and then summer will come around again--buy your swimsuit in February because by May they will long gone. Some of you may appreciate Reverend Billy's Church of Stop Shopping http://www.revbilly.com/ It's funny...but gets you thinking....
