Oligofructose/Sweet Perfection

I read about this product in Men's Health. It says that it tastes like cotton candy.

I've tried Stevia and didn't care for the slightly bitter taste.

Any feedback on this product to replace Splenda or Sweet 'N Low?

Also, how do you know which "fructose" is bad? I know the high fructose corn syrup is, but what about the others that end w/"fructose"?

I'm hoping that the educated crowd here, Kathryn possibly??, can help me figure all this confusing stuff out.

Thanks.

Fructose is a natural sugar found in fruits. It is low glycemic.

IMO, Fructose itself isn't bad, in moderation, but HFCS (which contains fructose, but also several other types of sugars) is best to avoid completely. It is highly processed, is most likely GMO (as many non-organic processed corn products are) and corn is high on the list of foods that cause allergies and sensitivities, largely because it's so hybridized and found in so many foods.

Oligofructose seems alright.

I highly recommend agave nectar as a sweetener. It is low gycemic as well, and tastes somewhat like honey or mild maple syrup (the dark varieties taste more maple syrupy).

Thanks, Kathryn, for your rely. I always enjoy reading your posts.

Agave nectar was also recommended. It was an interesting little breakdown of other types of sweetners.

I'm going to try several of the ones mentioned to see which ones I enjoy.

Another one to try (but probably not in coffee or tea, because it won't dissolve) is mesquite powder. It's ground from mesquite pods, is very nutritious, and has a sweet, kind of carmally flavor. I like it in smoothies (especially chocolate ones), but I think it would also be good as a sweetener in muffins or other baked goods, or sprinkled on oatmeal.
