Old Ladies: Any night sweats??

I guess I'm officially an old lady at 45 because I evidently have started the change of life (two years ago)x( I got the wild, wild bleeding under control by getting on the Pill, but have the absolute worst night sweats. I wonder if any of you have this going on?? I literally soak my sheets every night, regardless of the temperature in the room. When I wake up, I'm stiff as a board and drenched to the point of being chilled and having to move to another spot in bed!! I'm thin, work out hard everyday, eat right (Eat to Live, remember!?) and all that. So, it must be the 'mones... Anyone else have any insight or advice on how to ease this up??

Night sweats is a condition with any number of potential causes. (I'm almost 36 but have NS with some regularity - but not every night). In your case, it's most likely hormones, but a trip to the doctor certainly won't hurt to rule out anything else. Good luck!

I don't have any insight or advice, I'm 33 (I actually had to think about that for a minute! ) and I'm not going through any change of life or anything but I do have night sweats. I hate it, I'll go to bed freezing and wake up drenched. Sometimes I have to change my pj's because they're wet or I'll have to move to a different spot. I keep the temperature the same and some nights I have no problems. I don't see any pattern as to when it happens either (like TTOM or something). It is frustrating because I am constantly having to wash my linens and change sheets.

Mabe someone can offer some advice.

I am 50 and I have had night sweats, but I think I've figured out a way to avoid them.

I haven't had a NS in a couple of months since I started being particular about the covers on my bed. I use only cotton, breatheable type covers. No quilts or polyester comforters. For some reason, when I am covered with the denser material, I wake up with night sweats.

I know it sounds odd, but it works for me!

Hi,

Flax oil helps control night sweats for me. I was taking 1tbl twice a day, but I've decreased it a little because it's all fat and I'm trying to watch fat intake. I think I can take 2tsp twice a day and it will still work. The pills didn't work, and this may not work for you, but it is probably worth trying.

I am 36 and have had nightsweats for 5 years now. My husband and I haven't shared a blanket in 5 years. I have a stack of tank tops near the bed so I can change in the middle of the night. I have been on the pill/ off the pill...it doesn't seem to make a difference. I have had my estrogen checked and it is low..went on an estrogen patch...made me into a WITCH...and the estrogen patch didn't really change anything to do with the night sweats. I also tried Estoven with Soy and that did not work either. Usually I sweat alot during my period...which has been crazy too.

I guess it has come to the point where I need to get a second opinion...or deal with it. I would welcome any suggestions too!

A girlfriend of mine who's 48 swears by a vitamin for women who are going through the change of life, and/or perimenopause. I don't remember the name of it but if you ask at a vitamin store like the Vitamin Shop they could probably point you in the right direction. Since taking it she's a lot happier, less emotional, and doesn't have night sweats anymore.

You might want to look into Black Cohosh, evening primrose, an isoflavoniod supplement and a Vit B complex pill. I also take Mg at night. Good luck. Deb

No insight, no advice, sorry. just wanted to say i feel for you. I started that about 7 months ago. they lasted for a few weeks then went away as fast as they arrived. i was so soked I had to change my gown as it was pasted to my body. My hair was soaked. Yuck! Maybe yours will go away like mine did.

So sorry you think of yourself as an old lady. I will be 52 in February and was called a hottie by a 25 year old the other day! Just reminded me that age does not have to dictate attitude!

Candi:

Love it! No, I don't really think of myself as an old lady. I look like I did in highschool and still get carded, even with the night sweats! Thanks for all the ideas - I have some flax seed oil, so will definitely try that starting today. And I think I noticed an improvement with lower thread count sheets... hmmm. Could end up being an economical thing!:7

I'm 45,last year, noticed my legs would be damp at night, not hot, just clammy.Had my physical, resigned to some horrid disease, and all is normal..NOW,the clamminess is every night! AND,with my kooky workout history,I used to have 4 periods a year (hence 2 accidental pregnancies which are my adorable bougars...uh, I mean children- NOW,I get a period every 29-32 days!!!Who needs it?? With the sudden plummet of breast cancer related to the abrupt decline of women taking hormones, I'm not going to go on hormones, but do what generations of women in my family have done....go sit on the stoop,in my nightgown in the snow (I"m not kidding, they all did that)...and while I bemoan the thinnning of my white-girl skinny hair, it IS giving me time to deal with my new beard!
I'll try the lower sheet count....I do the flax and stuff....but the black cohosh and Evening primrose inflame the liver many times, and don't need that! Good luck, you're not alone!

I don't have any advice for nightsweats, but at 48 I do have the beard and mustache. I finally treated myself to laser hair removal. I have had 6 treatments and probably have two more to go. It has made the aging process so much pleasanter and worth every penny. No more adult acne due to ingrown hairs!

I don't go ANYWHERE anymore without a pair of tweezers! Those bad boys just pop out on my chin at any given moment it seems!

I, too, wake with the hot clammy feeling at night. It's better since I took the comforter off the bed and just have a light non-down blanket and turned the heat down. DH has adapted...hey, does he have a choice??? Well, the only benefit to him is that I wear less to bed; I've thrown out all my flannel nightgowns and pjs! }(

Good morning!

For starters, there is a TON of great information out there for you to review, and myriad different options for you to even eliminate what you are going through.

First of all, check out www.johnleemd.com - you will find a wealth of information there on women's health, specifically for hormonal balance etc.

Personally I have done a TON of reading on this topic recently for my job and find it very interesting and informative. Based on what I found out, I just went OFF the Pill (which the more you read the more you will find out how horrible the Pill is for you..) after 18+ years on it. My personal opinion (and of course I am not a doctor) is to avoid synthetic or non-natural hormones and try to balance your own body naturally based on your specific needs.

A GREAT book full of more information is "Ageless" By Suzanne Somers...it is like an encyclopedia of info!

Lastly, if you would like to email me personally to find out more, talk to others I know that are balancing themselves naturally and loving the results, feel free to email me directly at [email protected].

Hope this helps!

Take care
Kelly
