Okay, so what's this all about?

I usually exercise in the afternoon. However, today since I have the day off, I did my workout this morning.

I attempted BC cardio+lower body premix, followed by IMAX2. Uh, I couldn't finish it! ;( My HR, which is usually quick to recover, just wasn't doing that (which is why I kept in the recovery cycles although that wasn't my original plan)! I was feeling drained, tired and even a little in pain when I would breathe! I pushed myself as long as I could, and then thought the 'pain' might not be a good thing, so I thought I would cool down (again, which took much longer than normal :( ) and come ask you folks.

So what does this mean? ;( Thoughts?

It means you are a typical person. People have biorhythms that make exercise feel harder in the mornings and easiest in the afternoons. 4pm is considered the peak hour for exercise; it's when all signs are go for a good exercise session, for the majority of the populaion. This doesn't mean that you shouldn't exercise in the morning, just that you need to tone it back a bit until your system has had time to adjust. Don't worry that your troubles this morning mean you've lost any level of conditioning. When you go back to your regular afternoon time, it will feel like it always does. And doing the workout this morning probably taxed your system a bit harder, so you probably had a more effective workout than you think!

I workout at 5:30am, a feat that would not be possible without a large cup of coffee at 5:00am. Coffee good.

Hi Breckgirl,

Don't know the 'real' reason. But I know that my body just doesn't work first thing in the morning. It takes my brain a good thirty minutes to even 'warm-up'! I would never even attempt to do cathe in the a.m. Our bodies do have natural rhythms and then we also become accustomed to habit. Maybe you just 'surprised' your system:)

Anyway, it is best that you listened to your body and cut your intensity.

Have a great day

Hi BreckGirl,

I wish I could be a morning exerciser!! I usually workout around 6:30-7 pm. I seem to have the most energy at that time. I have tried many times to workout in the morning, but like you I got really wiped out fast. I just figured that I won't even bother trying to workout in the mornings anymore. I know that I get a good efficent workout in the early evenings, so I would rather stick with that schedule. Just listen to your body!!

Several months ago I tried to exercise in the morning before work-I am an evening person myself. I chose a 30 minute, fairly easy tape and I kept messing it up coz I was still half asleep! I had even allowed time for some coffee first but it just wasn't enough! LoL

I'm sure that if you start out with an easier, liter work out, you can successfully work up to a full strength routine in the a.m. if you would like to change the time of day when you exercise.

Your body just isn't accustomed to sweatin' in the morning at this point! :)

Take Care!

Hi there,

I'm an after work (evening) exerciser and I notice that on weekends if I exercise in the morning it will be without a doubt a sub par workout. I will have to sit down in the middle of a workout I can do with no problem in the evening, and I usually get lightheaded. I tend to need at least 2 meals and a lot of water in me to get a good workout.

Isn't it interesting how we each have our "peak performance" times? Due to work schedules, my husband and I get up around 3:45 (that would be AM, by the way) and I do my cardio then. But I do my weight lifting when I get home around 4:30 pm. When I've tried to do cardio later in the day, I feel heavy and bloated and it's alway way more effort. I can do weights in the morning though and feel pretty good as long as I have an energy bar or something. Our bodies are fickle machines. . . .
