I agree with you about the playoffs. I think it's happening in all professional sports. Playoffs have become almost a season unto themselves, they take way too long and often the result is that the championship series end up an anti-climax. The sad thing is it's all about selling beer and cars. I think they should lop off the first layer of all the playoff series/games and make the championships more reflective of who's done well ALL season.
I only follow pro baseball and soccer any more, and even them only begrudgingly because I love the sports so much and it's not easy to follow their college levels. As a high school AD the best entertainment my money can buy is a good high school contest: with all the passion, effort and commitment the kids put out it's always exciting competition, and there are no commercials!
