OK teachers -- need your help

Hi teachers (thinking early elem mostly). I wonder if you all have any knowledge of this educational tool. My DD has been tutoring much of the summer with a local teacher and one of the tools she used is a little hand-held beaded "prompt" for lack of a better word. It's got 7 colored "beads" and it's about 4-5 inches long. Each colored bead is a prompt for a different detail when working on reading comprehension and recall and each bead is kind of decorated with clues for the category. For example, "green group" (what group does the item or chapter or description belong in?), "blue do" (what does the item or chapter do?), the next bead has an eye, and the prompt is "what does it look like", brown -- "what is it made of", pink - "parts", white- "where" and lastly there is a red bead that has a question mark -- "what else do I know about it?"

It is such an awesome tool, and while I have all of the categories, my DD is a very tactile child and I thought if I could find the actual tool for her to use when reading or studying this school year it might help. The teacher (tutor) is unavailable right now for me to ask her, so I thought you all may have heard or know of such a tool. I'm looking to order one -- any thoughts? TIA

No that's not it, but thanks for trying. I like the idea of her making her own -- she would be more "connected" to it that way huh? Great suggestion - thanks!

I have no suggestions, but wanted to thank you for a great idea (both of you actually). I home school and one of my daughters is really tactile and struggles with reading comprehension. I love this idea. I think this would really help her. Thanks again.

Hi Lorrie,

I'm a MS language arts teacher. Am not familiar with the particular manipulative you're referring to, but I just wanted to share some additional resources:

Guided reading beach balls - Each panel of the beach ball has a question on it...You have a ball toss, and the child has to answer whatever questio her thumbs lands on. (These would also be very easy to make yourself.)

Ok - "un-crafty" as I am - we are attempting to make one of these. Will post a pic when we got it done.
