OK - so THIS is weird (to me anyway)

I just spent a little "mini-vacation" up in Toronto. I got up there on Sunday and came back last night. I did Cardio Coach 5 on Sunday morning before I left, and did 6 in the fitness room at the hotel on Tuesday, but that was it for exercise. I WAS walking everywhere and alot - because wow! It's very expensive to park in that city.

I didn't exactly eat like crazy, but I did have quite of few beers. My friend and I went into this pub on Tuesday for lunch and spent about 7 hours chatting and drinking. I certainly didn't make a huge effort to eat healthy either.

So, I got on the scale this morning and had lost a pound and a half since Sunday! Hmmmm....the Beer Diet....think there's anything to it?

Donna, the same thing happened to me a few years ago when I went to Puerto Rico. I was there for 5 days, hardly exercised at all, aside from walking and swimming, ate all of the local (read: unclean) cuisine, and came back 2 pounds lighter. *head scratch* It baffles me too.

Same thing happened to me in Paris last year. The only exercise I did was walking everywhere, ate 3 luxurious meals daily, lost 3 pounds that week. I think it's probably that on vacation we walk around all day and that keeps the body sort of revved up? At home I sit at a desk all day and only do an hour's workout at night. Also possibly it's because on vacation I mostly eat just at mealtime, no snacks, but I think I consume as many or more calories during my meals as I usually do. It's puzzling!

I think perhaps we underestimate how beneficial walking is, and how much walking we do when we are on vacation. When I went to London, I ate fattier and more calories than I usually do, but I walked everywhere (even when I took the Underground, there was a lot of walking involved both to the stations and within the stations).

>I think perhaps we underestimate how beneficial walking is,

Ditto. Since my old bulldog died, and we now have two young dogs that need at least 45 min - 1 hr of walking daily, I'm finding it's wonderful for me, too! I don't stress my joints with high impact cardio 5 or more days a week anymore... I'm down to mostly circuit/interval types around 3 - 4 days, with 2 - 3 days strength.

Does it count that I THOUGHT about you???? I really did!

You know, your squirrels are a different color than ours.

Yup, ours are mostly grey or red.

There is an area in Cincinnati, OH where black squirrels have flourished - I used to drive through it looking for squirrels, because they're so neat. :)

We've got black squirrels too!!! I think in the 10 mile radius around my house. I was thinking about how strange it is about 45 minutes ago! I *never* think of the squirrels!!!!! I must be on some cosmic plane with Catheland!

The rest of them around here (beyond 10 miles) are brown or gray. Mostly brown/tan.

So...I also lose weight when I go to visit my mom...I eat tons of unhealthy things and I always lose weight...And I usually don't exercise at all...It has taken me 2 years to figure out why....It wasn't until I did P90X and had my first recovery week that it clicked....My body needed the break from intense exercise and reacted positively. So now...I enjoy those workout breaks and let my body lose the weight it has been holding onto. Sometimes it has just been some excess water that my muscles were holding onto...and sometimes it has been actual weight. Recovery week (or weekend)....It's a good thing!

I was kind of thinking this as well. I wasn't in the mood to exercise last night, so I decided this was going to be a "break" week. I'll pick it back up tonight or tomorrow.
