Ok...My PAINT Question....

Stacy

Since we're talking about paint colors maybe someone out there can help me. I'm going to purchase paint at either Lowe's or Home Depot. I'm looking for a muted gold/mustard yellow and nothing ever matches the paint card color when you bring it home....it's either been too lemony yellow, too orangey yellow, too bright overall, too "pukey" yellow. We're painting our finshed basement walls, my couches are hunter/olive green. Anyone with the name of any paint samples they've used from either of these stores that might fit the bill???

Thanks!

Hi Stacy!

It's so funny you should ask this question because I have been searching for the same exact paint color for months! After much trial and little success in finding what I wanted, I have now opted to do a faux finish and I'm experimenting with my workout room. I got everything at Home Depot and will use the glaze with the ragging technique. It was the closest I could find and since nothing else has been up to speed, I thought at least the texture would look more interesting. If it works, then we will do the rest of the house. If not, then it's back to the drawing board!

Good Luck to you! If you find it, let me know!

Thanks for your reply! My first attempt at faux painting...the technique was pretty good (I used ragging) but the colors looked hideous.....some yellow-orange glaring sunshiney color! I needed sunglasses!

Hi Stacy.

Believe it or not, just yesterday, I had my powder room painted a dark mustard gold (think Golden's Mustard without the little spice specks). The paint came from MAB and is called African Safari. It came out really great, and looks just like the paint card. Olive accents would go great with it, I believe.

Edited to add that it is muted, meaning it's not a bright gold, but it is bold, and on the darkish side.

I have a yellow/mustard color that I love - it's from Home Depot, Behr paints and it's called "warm muffin". I had it the study of my old house and I love it so much that when we moved to our new house I painted my entryway the same exact color.

Thanks Tracy! How deep of a color is it?? Is it a subtle or bold color? I may have to check out Home Depot today!
