OK I got my new barbell & I'm confused

I tried SJP on Saturday & definitely was doing something wrong. It just seemed to easy.

When Cathe says "I'm using 25 lbs for this," does she mean on each side or total? I'm so used to the 25 & 45 lb barbells at the gym (without weights) my math is all out of whack w/the Walmart barbell. The bar itself must weight what, one ounce?

So when Cathe said "I'm using 25 lbs for this" I used 25 lbs total on the first cycle, which was squats, & I didn't feel it at all, plus her weights looked like 25 lbs per side so I figured I had it wrong. Then when she did biceps in the 2nd cycle & again said 25 lbs, it was still feeling light, I went to 20 lbs on each side & was thinking no freakin way!

Obviously I need some help. Can someone please clarify this for me? And then help me pick BM2 or LIC for this Saturday? ;-)

She means 25 lbs TOTAL weight. 25 lbs for squats isn't much. I always use 40-45 lbs. I think you just use Cathe's weight as a gauge and use whatever works for you.

Usually the bar weighs 5 lbs. When she uses 40 lbs, she uses the bar, plus a 10, a 5 and a 2.5 on either side.

I hope that helps a bit!

Well, sheesh, Laura....you're in superhero shape, so of COURSE 25lbs. is too easy for you. For squats, it's pretty easy for me too. I think SJP is more of an endurance one anyway.

20lbs. on each side for curls. You're nuts! :)

Well I suppose I'll have to play w/all these circuit workouts until I figure out what works for me.

I usually bicep curl about 70 lbs, but that's a regular curl, 3 sets 10. When you're doing like 40 of them in a row & she keeps changing the range, heavy weights hurt! }(

You guy still haven't given me a suggestion for this Saturday. And get specific on how to use the weights if you can. ;-)

If you do BM2, she doesn't use a barbell at all. And I think that in LIC, the barbell stays the same weight for everything, and I think it's 20 lbs. In BM2 she uses two sets of weights, 5s and 15s, but you could probably increase on both of those;)

Laura- there will be some difference in Cathe's weights that she uses, especially from her older workouts to her newer ones. I have a CAP barbell where the actual bar itself is 10 lbs, so I use that as my "base" weight and go up from there. I usually use #40 (#15 lbs each end) total for squats.....I tried #45 last week with GS legs and I couldn't walk for 3 days! Anyway... what is the max weight your barbell set goes to? I know that there are some that only goes to #55, but mine goes to #110....leaves lots of room for improvement, right?

WOW....#70 bor bicep curl! (be afraid, be very afraid!;-) :+ ) Yes, there is a learning curve to the barbell usage. Heck, I even had to get different clips for the ends because the ones that came with the set were just too short and I had to keep pausing the workout because they wouldn't come off easily! It took me 90 min to do PLB one day because I kept having to pause the tape! Talk about frustrating!

I would try BM2 this weekend....the leg portion is KILLER with the barbell! Then, again, LIC is a good choice as well.......

Oh, sorry, I'm not helping, am I!
