Ok, it's Sunday morning... bagel morning in this house. So what's your all-time favorite?????

That's tough, I picked cinnamon raisin but I do love a savoury bagel with salmon cream cheese.:9 Unfortunately I haven't found a good, old fashioned bakery that boils then bakes their bagels in this city. My SIL brings them to us from Ottawa and they are the BEST!

Take Care
Laurie:)

I chose cinnamon raisin since that would be my favorite, but I don't eat them because I can't find one under 300 calories!!!

I usually buy the plain and put LF cream cheese spread (favored cinnamon and brown sugar) from Philly on it. I buy the light ones and the calorie count with the cream cheese is much lower than the regular cinnamon raisin bagels.

Sunday mornings are bagel mornings in my house, too, unless we go out to brunch. Our favorites are garlic and onion. We like to make bagel and egg sandwiches.

I haven't had a bagel in ages! But, my all time fav was the Asiago Cheese bagel with jalepeno(sp?)cream cheese from Einstien Bagels. To die for!
Probably a gazillion calories and ump-teen fat grams!

The Wegmans in my home town makes a cinnamon struedel bagel that is literally one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth---which, incidentally, I've only done twice in my life b/c I'm sure they are are a gazillion calories! They are loaded with cinnamon "crumb cake" topping--I think the only difference between them and a doughnut is that are bigger, not fried, and boiled first, lol!:9 :9

I miss bagels. Nothing better than a plain one for me! I've been lucky to live near some really good bagel places in my life.

I love to make them into garlic bread... sliced, buttered, and garliced! YUM :9

I am so surprised to hear that many of you have given up bagels. IMHO bagels are unfairly maligned. When you think about it, they are the perfect food--portable, easy to eat on the go, and dense so that you can just chow down and not have to think about eating for hours. I spend my days in the operating room where there is no hope of getting anything to eat, and you could easily be standing there for hours longer than you expected. My a.m. bagel is key! Myself, I prefer a good salt bagel, because they most closely approximate the beloved hot pretzel. It has been quite a while since I ran into a good salt bagel (all these healthy eaters are making it hard for us salt-aholics!) Lately I've been reaching for the sundried tomato bagel, which is quite nice. I agree with those above me who highlight the importance of proper bagel cooking technique (boil then bake.)

Let's reconsider the bagel people! OK they are chock full of calories, but you have to admit they are yummy and above all CUTE with their circular shape and little hole. It always makes me want to put two up to my eyes and look around through them. And they are certainly healthier than their cousin the donut. And they freeze well! I just can't say enough nice things about them. I might vote for one next presidential election.

Thank Goodness!! Another bagel lover....Amy, your post made me smile...maybe 'cause I was a bagel store manager for a LONG time and I still LOVE them....even though I have changed jobs and now work in store with my second favorite food (sorta) in the world(espresso....that is food group, right?? Ah, salt bagels, no one appreciates them....toast and drop of spicy mustard on there....YUM! My all time favorite is everthing....but I'll eat anykind....but they have to bagel store kind, not grocery store kind. I still go to Einstein's, even though I don't get them for free anymore. The best bagels in the world(my world, anyway)come from a little bakery I used to work in many moons ago....Kaplan's on Resevoir Ave in Cranston, RI. Another good one can be found in Bethlehem, PA. The best ET and garlic cream cheese bagel I had in years....YUMMY. Nowadays, I try to stick with whole wheat, and only eat one half at a time. Einstein's has added a new good grains power bagel....low sugar whole wheat topped with sunflower, flax and pumpkin seeds....come on...what's not to like about that one???? Filling, cute, satifying.....and I just may vote for them too, Amy.

I LOVE the bagels from Panera Bread, especially the Asiago Cheese one. Mmmmmm. So I did not vote up top since it was not a choice. :)

ETA: I still eat bagels!!

>And they are certainly healthier than their cousin the donut.

Um Amy...bite your tongue. I will never get to the top of the chinup bar for a bagel. And to trash the perfection of a donut by carelessly even making such a comparison is nothing short of donut heresy. Sorry to flame you, but this is quite a serious matter you've touched on. The chinup girls may pelt you with yesterdays unfinished donuts (if there are any left) if you ever step into our thread.:p :p :p

Briee (Dunkin Donut for president)

Oh my...I just realized I posted that on the Sunday Morning Bagel Poll thread. Nevermind, carry on bagel lovers.:7 :7 :7

We have bagels on the weekends too. My favorite is marble (rye and pumpernickel). Mostly we eat multigrain or honey wheat. It’s tough to choose sometimes.

ok, it is no longer sunday, nor breakfast time, and now i feel that i may have to make a trip to the bagel shop to get a bagel. i try to eat something that looks like it might be healthy like whole wheat with seeds on it, but i like em sweet. i am from the south where a piece of cake can be a perfectly good breakfast item so i tend to favor the sweet ones, and will second melody's chocolate chip bagel vote!!

I've never heard of a chocolate chip bagel! I think if I walked into a bagel place where I live, and tried to order a chocolate chip bagel, they'd look at me like I was from a different planet. Sounds great, though... with a little cream cheese.. yum!
