off topic, sinus problems

Has anyone here ever had a sinus problem which caused their equilibrium to be off for 4 or 5 weeks. I have the popping ears, pressure above the eyes, and light-headedness and my balance is off. I was given antibiotics and a strong decongestant and am drinking lots of water. I'm on the 5th day and while it's better, my equilibrium is still off somewhat. Has anyone else ever had these symptons with sinusitis? Thanks.

Hi Lisa:

I feel for you. When I get a sinus cold/infection it does throw my balance off. I've even had the swishing (is that a word?) sounds in my ears. Plus when my sinus' drain it makes me sick to my stomach too. I usually take over the counter stuff to try and get rid of it because there are so many antibiotics that I am allergic too that I'm leary of taking anything. The water will definately help to thin out the mucus. The weather here in Illinois is not very cooperative and so I always seem to feel a sinus thing coming on. Hope you feel better soon.

Hi Lisa

I am sorry to hear that you are under the weather. I do agree it sounds like you have a sinus infection.

I live in Florida and for some reason I get 2-4 every year. It will last 2 weeks and I don't use nasal spray. A sinus infection can be contagious.

I take a really hot wash cloth and put it over my face as many times as I feel I need it and if I do that around 4-6 times a day and after a while I feel better.

Make sure you are getting as much sleep as you can also.

I hope you feel better.

Thank you Kimbra and Tina. I'm just scared to death that the equilibrium problem may be something serious. I'm hoping that it's normal to have this problem for several weeks with just a sinus infection.

Hi Lisa!

Obviously I can't tell you if your equilibrium problems are really something more serious, but I can relate all too well to all of the symptoms you are experiencing. A few years ago we lived in Japan, and up until then I never had a problem with my sinuses. But the winters there are so very cold and dry that I very quickly developed choronic sinusitus the very first winter season. I had all of your symptoms including ears popping, intense headaches, equilibrium off. If I tried to bend over to pick something up the pressure was so bad I wanted to cry. I was constantly congested and found only some relief from the decongestants. I was on antibiotics too, and after a couple of weeks, the symptoms would improve, although in my case it was only a couple more weeks and the infection was back. Hopefully that won't be the case with you.

You said you were just 5 days into your treatment with antibiotics? And it's getting better? Sounds like you're on the right track. If the equilibrium problems persist even when everything else is getting better, I would definitely call the doctor. I know I called them every time a new symptom came up or if I felt I wasn't improving. By the way...I don't know where you live, but how is your weather right now? The cold and dry made my sinuses worse, and when the summer finally came around I didn't have any more problems. And now that we're back in the states, I haven't had any problems at all. Go figure!

Sorry this was so long...hope it helps. And I hope you feel better soon!
