OMGosh...well, I was going to do Imax but then we made waffles and I was too full and then talked to my mother for too long and then DH and I had a long emotional conversation which lead both of us to call for chinese take out so now I'm sitting in front of the computer going...sooo...full...no...imax....::BURP::
Maybe I'll go into lab while I digest...
Chris -- yeah, my nickname from one of my friends is "petri dish" because if anyone gets sick around me, I'll be sure to be sick. I've always been like this...just a weak immune system. Though in my defense, there's that stupid norovirus around campus that has made 500+ students sick that I got. silly undergrads. And I saw Puccini's Madama Butterfly. My husband loved Bart and Tigger too, btw. He saw it out of the corner of his eyes and came to the computer after I got off to see what it was!
Beth -- I got B&G yesterday! I so wanna do it but I'm so full and I wanna Imax. You make me pine for a dog. My husband really wants a dog but I won't let us get one until we have a house or a MUCH larger apartment. Also, between the two of us, I'm the only one who actually grew up with dogs and I was very much involved with taking care of my dog so I get the set the ground rules on getting a pet.
Opera is one of those things you have to have a real open mind for. I don't understand Italian (or at least enough of it) to understand what they're singing but almost all the halls have supertitles so you can understand what everyone is saying. But if its done well, it doesn't matter -- the singing and the beauty just carries to a different place like last night. But I actually left Otello during the intermission in the spring because it was just so bad. But what was sorta weird last night was the dress. When we had gone to other shows at the LA opera, I guess we tended to go on the weekends and half the place are in jeans and we've often been overdressed. Since I wasn't feeling well, I told my husband that I didn't want to change at work. So we go in street clothes. Of course, its friday night, people are in tuxes and these gorgeous dresses and I'm in a sweatshirt. Ohhh..the glares from some people. But everyone who was part of the staff was extra nice to me, almost to mitigate some of the mean looks. So, you have to be prepared for the kind of audience I guess. I just told myself they were mad that they didn't get to wear as comfortable clothing as I did in a main orchestra seat! That said I wasn't too mad -- I get the tickets for $20 because I'm a grad student and I'm pretty sure each of their tickets were triple digits. Still, totally glad I got to see it.
Joanne -- that's so great Caitlyn is doing well! And you get to spend some non stressing time too! Enjoy the day.
