obsessed with Cathe

My friend thinks I'm obsessed. She kept seeing me on the Cathe website and one day she said, "You're really obsessed with this chick aren't you? Is she just really perky or what?" I thought that was really funny. There's no way to explain it though to someone who hates any form of exercise!

That's funny that you wrote this because lately my husband said that I was obsessed too. I get on here too many times to count a day and when my husband gets home from work, I talk about Cathe and what all of the women on here had to say about things. He said all he ever hears about anymore is Cathe this, and I heard this on the website. He is happy that it is all health related and not just some idle stuff though. I think everyone one on here is obsessed with this and I think it is a good thing that we are all working out, learning more about health, and just being able to relate with other women that we may not be able to meet in everyday life. I am a stay at home mom of a three year old and a four year old so this is my only outlet.

UGH I just hate that word "obsessed." Everyone I know who doesn't exercise is constantly telling me I'm "obsessed" with working out.

It's not obsession--it's a lifestyle, it's a habit, it's something we do for ourselves & only for ourselves (well maybe for our families so we can live longer for them). The word obsession bothers me b/c it implies an unhealthy state of mind & an addiction to something.

I don't panic if I miss a workout, I don't freak out if I gain a few lbs, I'm perfectly willing to cheat on my diet fairly frequently.

OK so I'm done ranting now--I guess my hackles raise when I see the word obsessed.........:p

I love that quote, too!!!

As for this "obsession" or dedication or whatever, hey, it's better than being addicted to soaps (as in soap operas!) or any kind of drugs, legal or not, gambling, shopping (though if you all check out your latest purchases maybe we are addicted to shopping, too!!!) or any other of kind of addiction...

And btw, most of us do just fine missing a workout or two here and there, "cheating" on our "diets", and some don't even weight ourselves!!!!

On christmas day, after the gifts were all opened and we were cleaning up the mess, I sat down to the computer. And my daugther said "Cathe? Even on christmas day mom"? She thinks I have a problem.

Hey wait just a minute......I AM addicted to soap operas!

Crap Lydia, you just made me confess my most shameful secret......I hope you're happy!

LOL Early! Love that quote. My DH thinks its great that I spend so much time on the Cathe boards. Hmmmmm.... wonder what that means?

It took EVERYTHING in me not to check out the forums on Christmas day!! Your post made me feel better..haha. We're not alone!!

My DH doesn't get it (the forum addiction..haha). I used to print things out quite often and talk about Cathe and her workouts and the issues discussed here with him. DH feels that I am being naive in believing what I'm reading on the forums and for feeling that I do get to know a little about the people here. I obviously totally disagree with DH and I pretty much just stopped sharing these things with him.

He doesn't exercise (while I'm a personal trainer) and I just feel that he doesn't share the passion for exercise that we do so he can't possible understand what we have going on here. I think he's being kind of jaded rather than me being naive.

DH thinks I'm "obsessed" as well. Well, it may be obsession or dedication, but to me it's a very good thing!!!

Oh yeah. People think I'm obsessed too. But you know what? That's just their opinion. I enjoy working out, I enjoy the results, and it is a WONDERFUL outlet after sitting still at a computer all day.

Sometimes maybe I obsess a little - remember those threads last week about "how much is enough," etc. But overall I think I'm fairly balanced.

Well, after reading Lisa's post, I just want to chime in here and say that my DH has a lot of respect for the Cathe ladies (sorry guys), thinks you are really great people, and is always interested in hearing what you think about things. Sometimes when we have disagreements, he even suggests that I go on these boards and find out what the Catheites have to say, and whoever YOU agree with "wins".

He's not perfect, though. He is suspicious of the guys who post here, and thinks they all have alterior motives. Also, there was one guy who posted here who he thought was actually dangerous.

I'm curious what other DH's think?

When I first discovered Cathe I was ecstatic to finally have challenging workouts to do at home and that I no longer had to waste my hard earned money on crappy workouts that promised and never delivered. I figured others would want to know as well and talked about Cathe at any opportunity....well it didn't take long for me to realise that sharing my discovery was usually met with a blank stare. The forums were my haven for sharing my love and enthusiasm for Cathe and her workouts. It's fabulous to come here and cross paths with others who embrace the opportunity to constantly push themselves to new levels. I figure that many of those who pooh pooh our 'obsession' have masked their fear of challenge and failure as cynicism.

Take Care
Laurie:)

Nancy...I think it is so wonderful that you can share what we have here with your DH. I know my DH has a lot of respect for me and for Cathe as he sees her workouts. But, he has commented to me to be careful because not everyone is as honest as I am and he is suspicious as well of some men who post here.

I can understand that we should all be careful. But, I feel it in my gut that most people that post here are very geniune and sincere. And I'll keep on going with my gut feeling. Afterall, I had a wonderful "gut" feeling about you and I just know I'm right about that.:) :) :)

It just makes me sad that I can't share something I'm so passionate about with my DH.

Sorry...I'm digressing a lot:)

Lisa, you are so sweet. I think I can honestly say that your gut feeling is right. For one thing, I've met some Catheites in person and they are as nice as they seem online. For another, many of the Catheites have met each other and they all say the same thing. There is no question in my mind that the vast majority of the people who post here are the genuine article. To the extent I'm careful about what I say, it's because of the unknown lurkers out there, and because this is a public forum, not because of the people who post here.

Laura, you are right that exercise is a habit and a lifestyle, but as far as this website goes, I am obsessed. I love talking with the folks here and like many of you said, I go home each day and tell my family what my Cathe friends had to say. Sometimes I worry that I spend more time communicating here that I do with the people I see each day at work. I love getting my Cathe fix, both here on the forums, and at home with my step and weights.
