O/T Where to stay when visiting Virginia Beach?

I'm thinking of taking a vacation next year around June or July to Virginia Beach. I have a 2003 hotel brochure but would like to know if anyone recommends a certain place. I'd like to stay on the beach - moderately priced. I am from Alton, Illinois and might be driving (not sure yet). Any suggessions?
Thanks,
Kimbra

I used to live in VB. I would suggest the Ramada Inn at 57th St. and Atlantic Ave if you want something Oceanfront but not in the noisy thick of things. Also, the Shore Drive side (near the Bay) is often overlooked. But if you just want to be in the main beachy-beach area, they're all about the same. Take your pick, whatever is in your price range. Have a good time! One of my favorite things to do there is to go running in Seashore State Park. Also, rent a bike and ride around.

I live about 10 mins away from the beach. It depends on what is important to you - do you want to be in the middle of everything, or are you looking for a little more laid back area? My husband and I always walk on the beach near the North End (87th + street) since it is much quieter. Let us know what you are looking for and I am sure we can give you some suggestions!

Thanks guys for the replys.

Would kind of like to be on the more relaxed part of the beach but not so far away that we couldn't walk to a few things. I have a 2003 travel guide and here are a few I've tabbed as looking good.

Best Western Beach Quarters Inn
Best Western Oceanfront
The Breakers Inn
The Cavalier
Colonial Inn
Comfort Inn Oceanfront
Days Inn Oceanfront
New Castle Hotel
The Oceanfront Inn
Quality Inn & Suites
Sheraton Oceanfront Hotel
Surfside Oceanfront Inn and Suites

I've been getting on these places websites to get more info.
Thanks,
Kimbra

The further north you go, the better. So, choose the one with the highest cross street number. You will either be on Oceanfront, Atlantic or Pacific for North/South Streets. Then as the numbers get higher for the East/West cross streets, you'll be further north.

Anything above 30 is less crowded. But you can still walk to everything, assuming you are in good shape. Or rent a bike. They also have little trolleys for cheap that go up and down Atlantic Ave.
