O/T: Premier of "The Girl With a Pearl Earring"

Stargazer

Cathlete
I read this book on the recommendation of people on this forum. I really enjoyed it. Thank you.

I thought you would get a kick out of the experience my daughter had last week in London.

She is studying in London for the semester. There is a film festival going on. She and two roommates decided to try to get tickets for the world premier of "The Girl With a Peal Earring" At the last minute they went to the 'returns' window and were able to get in.

Not only did they enjoy the movie but they also got to see many famous people who came to the premier including the author of the book (Tracy Chevalier), the two main characters (Colin Firth and Scarlett Johanson) and the movie director (Peter Webber)!

She was very excited (and so was I when she told me of her adventure.) It was especially exciting because I had just been to visit her and we saw an exquisite Vermeer painting in the Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace (The Music Lesson)

Thanks for the cultural note!

I have to say that I have deep reservations about seeing this movie: the book is too magical, too subtle, too suggestive, too provocative for me to have it reduced and fixed into one person's interpretation of it in celluloid.

I probably will not go see it. But since it is made, I am ecstatic that it was Colin Firth who was chosen to lead it, because he can do understated subtlety unlike 99% of "movie stars" out there.

My deepest movie desire of the moment is to see "Love Actually" which not only stars my heartthrob Colin Firth but also all my other favourite leading men: Alan Rickman (the voice, ah! the voice) and Hugh Grant (that naughty twinkle in his eye). How am I even sitting still as I type this!?!?!?!?!?!

Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait, can't wait, can't wait, can't wait....

Clare :)

Oh Clare,
Funny you should comment on Alan Rickman. My daughter has been at various plays and has seen Alan Rickman as a member of the audience several times!!

Now if she would just run in to Sir Paul McCartney, I would probably faint!
