Morning All:

Color me crazy but is an eleven page baby gift registry a tad over the top? Is this standard practice nowadays? Old friends of DH are having their first baby; I don't even like them, truth be told, but in the spirit of being a better person I trotted off to Babies R Us, tapped their name into the computer and 11 pages came back at me!! So there I was, in the middle of a store I'd never even been into, attempting to find a couple of items off an eleven page list. Lots of the stuff was fairly expensive too. I wonder if the couple have actually purchased *anything* for the baby themselves! Am I too crabby?

Ive never heard of a baby gift registry but Im sure its common. As for 11 pages, I think that is over the top.
Something else I think is strange is people who have a baby shower for every baby they have.I know that a few years when I had my daughter you have a baby shower for your first, keep everything and just close friends would give something to the second baby. But now, most of my friends and people I know are on their second and are having another shower. Is this normal now a days?

I just had my 2nd baby and my co-workers threw a small shower for me. I don't know many people who have baby showers after their first child so the one my co-workers threw was a total surprise.

My cousin just had a baby in September and she registered at Babies R Us. I was surprised to see how many things she chose - I think her registry was 8 pages long and there wasn't anything cheaper then $25. And if I would've bought something from the list that cost $25, it sure wouldn't have looked like much of a gift at the shower. I opted to just buy her something from Wal-Mart and for $30, I got a whole bag of stuff. :)

LOL Sparrow...no you are not too crabby! I would tend to agree that it's excessive but people tell me I don't ask for ENOUGH! I got badgered for my bridal shower and my baby shower to register for more but I was not about to register for things just so people have something to buy me!!! I guess some really want everything they put on thier registries but even so....what in the heck do you buy for a baby that takes up 11 pages worth!?!? OMG!

I am expecting my 6th child and have never had a baby registry. I find it embarrassing and crude, somehow to have a list of things that people should purchase for the baby. I hate asking for stuff anyway. People have bought things for us over the years and it is appreciated, but they have done so out of their own desire, not because we have any expectation of it.

Truth be told, I've found that small babies need very little of all that stuff anyway.

No I don't think you are being crabby. And I agree with Wendy--lotsa diapers are a good thing.

Maggie:)
