my physical therapist told me i needed to get a really decent supportive pair of sandals - his first recommendation was birkenstocks. yesterday he mentioned dansko might be good too. has anyone out there had experience w/ either or both? honestly i'm not crazy about either of them style-wise, but if i want to run i guess i have to. any input would be appreciated. (he also told me no more flip-flops - had to get tevas. ugggh.)

you're right!! i was on their web site and i didn't know they did so much.

I have both Birks and Dansko- several of each actually. My Birks are both the sandal and the Boston style...I basically wear those every single day, summer or winter. I have 3 pair of Dansko clogs and they are by far the most comfortable shoes I own that arent Birks. I wear them for those few times I want to be a bit more dressy. Meaning jeans instead of workout clothes or pajamas. I would highly recommend eihter of them or both.

do the dansko have much arch support? i overpronate a lot and apparently need a lot of support in that area. i typically like a little dressier sandal, so i'm struggling w/ the whole birks thing. the clogs aren't bad, but the sandals still look a little 1960s casual for me.

I've had several pairs of Tevas. My current ones have a foot print on the insole & are incredibly comfortable.

I don't have any Dansko shoes, but can vouch for clogs.

Check out Joseph Siebel shoes/sandals too though the bumps on the insole are irritating at first. I purchased a pair of shoes for culinary classes (long hours on cement) & could not believe what a difference the shoes made. They make clogs & sandals too. The Walking Store & Nordstroms carry them. DH has a pair of Siebel sandals - actually quite stylish.
