NYC Pizza Suggestions

DH and I are going to NYC in February. We are big fans of pizza, and I'd love suggestions on your favorites. We don't mind hitting the buroughs; we treked across the Brooklyn Bridge to Grimaldi's on our last trip (well worth it AND made us feel less guilty for the calorie splurge!). Also liked John's (on Bleeker, not so fond of the one in the church off Times Square, though.)

Oh, and we usually order plain cheese or Margherita.

Any suggestions?
 
You could try Big Nick's on Broadway and about 76 or 77th. West side of the street. Nothing fancy at all--just plain old pizza--but really good. Great burgers, too.
 
I know of a REALLY excellent Italian restaurant in Little Italy. I think I had Pizza and some pasta when I was there (my DH and I shared). It was called Fiorini's............and it was the BEST italian meal I've ever eaten. In case you decide to go to Little Italy for dinner!
 
i have to tell you. this is a tough question to ask a new yorker. grimaldis is awesome. there are so many wonderful places in the different boroughs. i lived in florida for 14 years, and missed ny pizza!

littly italy has great places, as does bay ridge in brooklyn. you will sometimes find the best pizza in little pizzarias.

if you tell me what areas you will be visiting i can do some research (this basically means that i will ask friends all over the place).

We go into New York alot. Try Waldy's Pizza and Penne on Sixth Avenuebetween 27 and 28 Streets. It's a small place with individual woodfired Pizzas and specialty pennes. You can cut your own herbs to put on the pizza. Delicious!

Anywhere in Manhatten, definitely Brooklyn, and we may venture to Staten Island this time.
I've looked up the Time Out list of best pizza places for 2006, and they list Di Fara's in Brookly as the #1 choice.

Thanks again to all of you for your suggestions. And, if we have to eat pizza for every meal while we're there? Oh well, I can thing of worse fates!!!!:D :D :D
 
glad to help. not sure about staten island. my boyfriend is from queens and now lives on long island. i will ask him. never know what i may find out. i have italian friends here in brooklyn, so i have good resources.

one day my friend and i went to chinatown for handbags. you must do this. anyway, little italy is there. we just picked a place that had brick oven and we ordered. seafood pasta and pizza. food was amazing. most places in little italy have to be good or they wouldnt be there.

anyway, i will check it out for you and let you know. happy and a healthy new year!

From a native may I suggest Two Boots pizza? They are in the Village as well as in Rockefeller Centre. Thin crust, awesome sauce. John's in the Village or Upper West Side are the only John's worth going to.

Not really a pizza joint, but I highly recommend 44 SW on Ninth Ave. It's a family-owned Italian restaurant w/ pizza on the menu...Although I haven't ordered the pizza before, everything else I've had is positively *delicious.* I usually eat there whenever I go to the city. They make a helluva Long Island Iced Tea, too. Will knock you on your butt. :) Here's a menu:

ok here is what i am getting from most people so far. besides grimaldis and the places in the village, (mostly rays original), is L & B Spumoni Gardens. this is in brooklyn. lots of cops and firemen stop by to get pizza. i know. i have experienced this and it was a blast.

I second Two Boots Pizza. It has been a few years since I have been there, and I still crave this place, and I have only been there once. It is fantastic pizza.

I third Two Boots! I used to live in Park Slope, where there is one. I love thin and crispy crusts, and they have the best!
And Park Slope is a beautiful neighborhood to visit if you've never been.
