Nutritional Value of Dried Fruit?

Just wondering if anybody knows if there's a big difference in the nutritional value between dried and fresh fruit?
Thanks!
Brenda

Brenda, I'm not very knowledgable, but have always assumed that dry fruit has all the same nutritional value of regular fruit. The problem with dried fruit, and the reason I don't eat it, is because the fructose is very concentrated in dry fruit, and you can wind up eating a lot more sugar than you need very quickly. For example, I can easily eat a whole bag of dried apricots, but if I eat real apricots, I only eat a few because the water content makes them more filling. In the dried fruit, with the water removed, dried fruit is almost as sweet as candy. Of course, given a choice, dried fruit is better than candy, but ideally it's best not to eat either I think.

Thanks for the input. I was just wondering because I've read where fresh fruit should be eaten soon after purchasing for the most value and if that's the case then a dried fruit seems like it wouldn't be worth much at all.

You can make dried fruit better by soaking it, to give back some of the water content so it's less concentrated. That way, you won't end up eating too much.

Dehydrating actually preserves nutrients better than cooking or heating (if it is dried at below 118 degrees, which dried fruit from raw food companies is).
