nutrition software...

i signed on for the nutrition software and REALLY love it. the only things i don't like are that the cardio minutes in the stats don't count when you do a dvd workout (for instance, i did 4ds lis and 4ds his yesterday, which is a cardio workout but doesn't count in my times). that's not really a big deal, it's just fun to see the stats you rack up.

my bigger issue is that there is no place, at least that i can find, to add in the supplements you take. for instance, i take a multivitamin everyday as well as calcium, omega 3,6,9, biotin, etc. and i don't see anywhere to add it. also, quite a few clean foods are missing (i.e. quinoa) but i just added those to my custom foods.

anyway, just adding my two cents!

Lor, I just added my multi-vitamin in as a custom food.

Glad you got your answer Lor! So as not to have to start a new thread I am hoping someone reads this again. I just purchased the nutrtion software today and have a question...I can't seem to make rhyme or reason of the order in which they display the foods pre-entered into the software. Also, it seems no matter what I type, I never get what I want! I wanted turkey lunchmeat-couldn't find it. I wanted rotisserie chicken-couldn't find it. I'm very confused....any helpful hints on how to word things in order to find them easier??

Wendy, I would search under more general terms: like simply "turkey" or "chicken breast." I know turkey deli meat is in there because I ate it a couple of times last week. HTH!

Has anyone had any problems with the nutrition software yet? Can you add workouts other than cathe workouts? such as amy bento, firm etc??

Quite a few folks (myself included) have run into issues when logging in to the software, but there are ways to get around that. On the support forums, there have been numerous posts with troubleshooting suggestions. I have not experienced any glitches within the program itself.

I don't believe the Workout Manager allows you to enter other DVDs at this time, but you could log it in according to the type of workout it is. Some things like pilates and kettlebells aren't in there, but hopefully they will be added.

Can anyone familiar with FitDay software (not the free usage on the website but the one you pay for and download) compare it to Cathe's nutrition software? I just purchased FitDay and while it's working okay, I've already found some things that bug me. For example, I would like to be able to sort my customized foods to make them easier to find. It would be interesting to hear from someone who's used both programs.

TIA,
Sue

I used the FitDay PC software for quite some time and liked it a lot, although I eventually joined WW online to break a plateau. I don't remember the order of the custom foods list bothering me too much. I would just type the first letter or two of the food item, and then the custom choices would appear in the drop-down menu.

In Cathe's nutrition program, custom foods appear alphabetically in the custom foods list. If you add foods to your favorites as well, then they will appear in suggestion lists based on category (entree, side, snack, etc.).

What I loved about FitDay was the ability to enter your workout info and factor in calories burned. I know you can calculate that with the new Workout Manager, but it is not synched with the nutrition program. Even WW adjusted calories based on activity, and IMO, it's the one big gap in Cathe's program.

FitDay is an excellent program that I think is well-suited to people who are already controlled in their eating and just need a place to track it.

But overall, I personally prefer Cathe's program because I still have weight to lose, and for me, the structure of the report card is necessary to help me reach for better choices.

The report card is what sold me on Cathe's program! I have FitDay and it's a great program for tracking your cals and macros but Cathe's is truly teaching me how to eat better and I apparently need the help! LOL I am good to go as far as cals, protein, fat and carbs but I never paid attention to the rest of the aspects of nutrtion. Cathe's program has really shed light on that part of it for me.

Thanks for the feedback!

Cathy – You’re right about FitDay’s custom foods appearing in the drop-down. Guess I should use that feature more. I also like FitDay for the ability to enter my workout information and factor that in to creating my calorie deficit. I’m trying to lose so factoring in calories burned helps me see if I’ve created too much of a calorie deficit (yeah, that's actually happened :)) or not enough.

Wendy – The report card is a nice feature of the Cathe nutrition software. You can see your percentages in FitDay but only if you've selected that option or on the overview screen. Also the letter grade (A-F) vs. the bar graph gives you a better at-a-glance summary. Ooh, and the pressure to get all A’s… Nobody wants an F! LOL  I also like how it gives you suggestions to meet a particular nutrient need.

Thanks for the opinions, guys. I’m glad Cathe’s program is working for both of you. I think I need to actually try it for a month and see how I like it. I see pros and cons with each one so by actually using it I’ll see if I like it or not.
