Hey guys,
I actually feel a lot better after a 45min nap. I think with all this fire crap in the air and us leaving the windows open resulted in my coughing fit. I was unaffected by the fires but pick a direction other than the ocean from my apt, there it was - fire.
I got in 80min in yesterday of light aerobic. I called stretching my toes for 10mins in bed my "yoga" workout.

I'm trying this extra shock push because my bday is in ~ 6wks. Just trying to maximize.
I forgot to post this -I went to a fantastic talk yesterday. I had some issues with what I thought were flaws in the analysis/model, but it was basically an aging talk...what keeps us living longer and/or healthier. My lab showed this in yeast and mice, and this guy was doing this in human -- calorie restriction. It basically means smart dieting...you have to have high quality intake just less than what we thought originally. In yeast and mice we've expanded longevity almost up to 50% and this guy showed similar stuff in humans. But he was looking at a lot of things and he and I quibbled about calorie intake for athletes at the end. Other people brought up some other points like behavior changes (which they aren't measuring) and the difference between minimum requirements and recommended requirements for nutritional intake. But anyway, here was some info from the talk -- with some great statistical strength -- that I thought you guys might find interesting and motivate you.
1. Loss of excess weight has dramatic and positive effects on the body. This can be done through CR or exercise, it does not matter how you do it, but the body making the loss has positive effects.
2.
The big one!! -- Removal of the fat through physical means (i.e., liposuction) does not give the same effect as #1. So, if your cholesterol ratios get better from exercising the fat off, you will not see if it a doctor sucks the fat off...immediately or even months after it. So, its something about the body's internal signaling during weight loss that helps regulate the numbers, not just the removal of the visceral fat.
3. Though it appears first that people on CR have much better health index scores (fasting glucose, cholesterol, etc.) than people who just exercise (but we're not sure how significant the change is), people who exercise process glucose MUUUUCH better that CR subjects did. This was one of the more interesting pieces of data at the talk because we were discussing why evolutionarily this would happen.
4. Too much protein can *possibly* change something called IGF levels in the body which has been an indicator of cancer. Now, from this, it was, how much is too much based on what activity and is it too much or is it the kind of protein. He showed data from vegans and just normal CR people and the vegans were doing a lot better than the normal CR people via the health indicators.
5. Processed and refined stuff = bad for you. Very strong data. It was the nail in the coffin. Started looking up last night how to change our lifestyles to get rid of as much of processed/refined stuff and started making lists.
So, not sure if I bored you but I thought it was pretty interesting yesterday.
Also -- re: zipfizz -- it seems that there is an immune booster, liquid shot, and something else. Which ones do you guys take?
Personals!!
Chris -- GS legs looks haaaaard. And didn't you just do a bunch of walking lunges? Crazy! Hope it warms up. I'm doing the exact opposite in my home right now. I have to A/C to put on when I workout (I only put it on when its warm or we're working out so we we don't get sick) because they're replacing it, so I'm trying to let the cool air come in and do it for free now so it won't get too warm later (if that made any sense!). But I'm keeping my mouth covered to not breathe in too much of the crap.
Iris -- that sounds like a really nice mix up. Have fun with that.
Beth -- like I said, I think its the air quality that's making the cough annoying. But mixed blessing. It's forcing me to stay home for a bit so that's nice...
Off to doze off again...
