NON-CHECK-IN....March

I'm still sore today, but that's good, let's me know I did something yesterday! I had horrible insomnia last night so I slept in this morning much later than I liked. I feel like the whole morning is gone already, I hate that!

Once I get a cup or two of coffee in me, I'll figure out what workout I'm going to do.

Linda...you mentioned a time diary, tell me more what you mean by that.

I also like hearing about others' rotations. There's a post on videofitness.com about people's current rotations. Bar workouts seem to be popular. I've never done one but they don't look like something I'd be into. I cant remember if I mentioned that I got Jillian's new yoga dvd. There's two 30 minute workouts on the dvd...both look good, more yoga with a twist, with some pulsing reps. I think I'll enjoy these, a bit more of a calorie burn than traditional yoga dvds that I have without sacrificing the stretch.

Ok, coffee time...

I just finished one of the workouts on Jillian's new yoga dvd. I really liked it! It was perfect for me today...not too long, got me to sweat a bit and got a nice stretch. The weather is beautiful again here today! :)

Hi girls!

Glad you liked the yoga Stace, I've been looking at stuff I write down everyday, I thought if you change it up some, like recording where you spend time instead of calories or f-o-o-d (I had to do food for a diet once and it was absolutely the worst for me, I know when I'm not eating right, I either stop eating fruit everyday, or generally feel crappy) wouldn't have to be time, could be anything different?:)

Hey Donna, how do you get your muscle gains vs. fat loss? I just have general BMI but I it's calculated by weight/height only, I think. I really liked cross train KB, and at some point want to do Ilaria's, looks like things are really working for you, stay healthy.:)

The cool thing about kickbox is it always puts the fun factor right in for me, maybe it's just more different than anything I've ever done (same with step, really), I think yoga relaxing but I probably have done too much stuff like that in the past, may have to look into Jillian's.:)

Low Max step combo premix today

Linda:)

Hey ladies!

Sorry I have been absent. We started building our raised vegetable garden beds in our yard on Saturday and Sunday - and, I found that "post-hole" digging is a great chest and arm workout

Been reading your posts - glad to see you Stacy. I will put Jillian Yoga on my wish list for later.

Linda - I like the muscle gain/fat loss measurement. It takes the monthly water retention right out of the equation and can be motivating when the scales are not as fair ;) I use a spreadsheet that I created and formulas from Covert Bailey to calculate body fat, etc. Then, once a month - I go to a gym and get tested.

My cycle start nexts week - and, the weight fluctuation is starting - so, workouts help minimize the retention...

Did elliptical cross trainer (45m), Physique 57 Full Body Workout (LOOOOVE IT!), and Yoga.

Have on tap one of the step programs from Cardio Hits, plus their abs routine, and yoga for tomorrow. If I stay with the split day - some upper body work will be on the schedule - I will just have to see how I feel!

Hope all is well with you! :D

Another so-so sleeping night, slept from about midnight til 4 and then tossed and turned until my alarm went off at 6am, then I worked from 7:30 to 4:30, came home, at dinner, relaxed a bit and forced myself to do the cardio only premix from LIC. I got thru it, but it got tough towards the end! I'm going out of town this weekend and probably wont workout so I want to get in some kind of workout at least 4 days this week.

I got the new Tonique workouts today (major impulse buy). I've previewed two of the four. The Mat work looks really good, the other one looks like it might be a big tweaky for the knees, and I have to review the two Cardio/Sculpt workouts. Donna, I pondered getting Physique 57 but finally talked myself out of it. Linda...I love kickboxing workouts too. I got into kickboxing alot b/c it doesnt give my knee any trouble and the punching and kicking is a good stress reliever!! I have Tracey Stahle's new one and really like it. I also have Ilaria's workouts too which are no-nonsense and tough but not quite as high on the fun-factor more b/c of her personality being so serious but she's a pro at her form and instruction.

I'm still slowly getting thru the Intuitive Eating book and I really like it. In keeping with the programs general principles I don't think I should journal anything. In looking ahead I think the first principle to conquer is to forget about nutrition and allow myself to eat whatever I want, trying to be mindful of "biological hunger cues". The book goes into alot more detail but I havent gotten there yet. I feel like I want to read this book with a highlighter...many good quotes/ideas!

Donna your garden sounds awesome!! I dont have much of a green thumb but I'm going to give an indoor/container herb garden a try this year!

I think a strength training workout is on tap for tomorrow, my body is craving it.

Hello

I won't quote you but I'm giggling about "tweaky knees" and "major impulse buys"... yeah, I caved on Cathe coupons, & justified it by saying "I'm eventually going to do this anyway!" My tweakies don't protest as much as they used to!

Viewed Kickmax yesterday, & yep, it's all me, in that okay, how do I get from here to there kind of way; I had this weird deja vu thing watching the plie's and again later during those zig zag hops, very weird:confused: I couldn't have done this before?

I better get at the garden, tomatoes & peppers for sure, I don't know what else, last year the weather didn't cooperate until summer.

Going to start using the Ultimate Workout Log book next month, devise a plan...:)

PLB today, yay! I love that LIC premix! that's a go to, for sure!

Good morning, a rainy day here. I have the Double Upper Body premix from BodyMax2 on tap for today. That's a great workout and it includes abs which I've been slacking on lately. Check it out if you need a great upper body workout but need a break for PUB. The time listed on the dvd for the workout includes abs. If I remember correctly just the upper body part is about 45 min (?)

Errand time...

OW! OW! OW!

Physique 57 has touched muscles I did not know I had. Boy - am I sore today.

Slept in today - will do a Step Routine/Abs from Cardio Hits, Yoga, Upper Pyramid (premix), and Total Body Stretch.

Hope all is well with you this morning. Warming up here in Georgia - so, maybe I can get back to the garden after rain, snow, and cold yesterday. Have 75 strawberry plants in the refridgerator to get into the ground soon.

Blessings,
Donna

Stacy -

I am thinking about getting the Gymstyle DVDs to help with my strengthening work (take advantage of the coupons like Linda ;)) - any input on these DVDs - I think there are three (chest, legs, back) - are they good?

Also - I am budgeting for the Fall to get the new Shock Cardio - but, I am seeing alot of negative reviews of the system - can you give me some insight?

Donna

Hi...I just finished my Double Upper body premix from BM2 followed by Ab Ripper X, which I did with my hubby. He's waiting on the Beach Body chin-up bar to be delivered and he's going to start P90X! I'm excited for him but he's never really been into working out so I hope he can stick with it!

Donna....I really think the Gym Styles are a great fitness purchase, and if you get them I'd also purchase a band b/c the band exercises in this set are really good. One disc is Chest/Triceps, another is Back/Biceps/Shoulders (which I believe the running time listed in the description is wrong, havent looked in awhile to see if this has been corrected. I think it's 46 min instead of 64), and the other disc is Legs which has both standing legs and floor legs. The toughest part of these workouts I still feel is the chest section! I don't often do the standing leg work more b/c of knee issues but the floor work which uses both the stability ball and bands is some of the best out there. What I really like is that each disc has a Timesaver premix which is a good option especially if the original workout is a bit too advanced at first.

As far as the Shock Cardios....Ive so far only done one of the HiiT workouts and I've done the Boxing workout twice. I like both workouts. When I first got these, I hadnt worked out in a few months so the intensity of the Cardio Circuit workout and the Athletic Step workout were a bit too much. I really dont know why I havent tried the MMA workout yet as it seems like something I would enjoy. The HiiT workout I did was the easiest of the 3 and it's really only about 16 minutes in addition to the warm-up but it's a workout I do only on days I'm feeling up for the challenge b/c it makes me feel nauseated at times it's so tough, but it's a great short and "sweet" workout.

Let us know what you decide!

BTW - Cardio Hits PowerMax is really good.

I was looking for a step-only (no intervals, circuit) routine to add yesterday so that my weight training would be strong and this routine hit the spot. Not only that - but, being 60 minutes it actually built some endurance to my cardio. If you think about it - up til now most of the step has been 40-50 minutes and if longer - it was interrupted with circuit work. Reminds me of an "interval-less" LowMax.

Now - the outfits are a different story

Donna

hahaha...haven't seen those suits but some of mine are, uh, less than, uh, flattering:p I got some cheap capris & t's that work out pretty good, shoes matter most to me.

Good on you Donna, I'm impressed watching you work you way up through the strength & cardio (I think I'm a little genetically challenged in speed & cardio:( imagine that, I make up for it in other areas I think;)) thanks for info on the cardio hits (coolness plus!), the MMA stuff in shock cardio has my curiosity peaked, that's not for me right now, sometime though.

For me stuff like Low Max is more technical (as far as the PM goes), so I try to get that stuff better each time, LIC cardio premix is more speed-cardio, kick max is definitely a speed thing for me (or will be), and the LIC circuit is endurance for sure. I knew where my weaknesses would be, knees, speed, BTW Stacy, I don't know if you ever did Drill Max but the exercises look like they would be excellent knee strengtheners, that's what I'm going to use it for (this one gets the 5 star Easter Bunny rating!)

All LIC today, better, better, better!:D

Let the sun shine...let the sun shine in... the su-unshine in!
Linda

Thanks for the "Vote of Confidence" Linda - I am trying hard - but, taking lessons from you on pace and consistency! ;)

BTW - in CardioHits PowerMax - when Cathe shouts "Go Airborne, Spin, and land backwards!" my body went "WWWHHHAATTT!" At 58 pounds more to go for me - the only thing airborne for a while will be my dreams of doing those steps correctly :D That move was "CRAZY!" I did see that these routines are good for endurance, as I said prior, because around 50 minutes - I started getting sloppy. I finished it - but, I knew my body had found a "comfort level" of a 40 minute step program. So - once a week with this routine will be a good stretch for me!

Just ordered GymStyle Stacy - really looking forward to the variety. Thanks for the help! Will continue thinking about Shock Cardio - I had heard it wasn't challenging enough - too short - and that the people in the DVDs were not too motivating as prior DVDs. Not on tap to start these DVDs until Fall - so, I have time.

Enjoy LIC today Linda - getting better, better, better!

I was unable to do a workout yesterday - preparing my husband's business books for tax filing. So - I did Cardio Hits and will complete the day with Pyramid Upper, Abs, Yoga or Stretch. Just pushing my week one day forward. Tomorrow is circuit - probably LIC.

Blessings,
Donna

Hi there!! I did 28 min on the treadmill before work (2 min walk, 2 min jog), tomorrow will probably be a much-needed rest day.

Donna...I'm so excited for you and your Gym Style purchase...do you have a band?? I totally forgot about Power Max...that used to be my go-to workout years ago when I first started Cathe. I'll have to drag that one out again!

Linda...always motivational! I do have Drill Max, but that one for me is tough! Even the warm-up wears me out. I usually have achy knees after it though, havent figured out which move does it though, but I have done it before and my knees were okay, all depends on the day I guess!

Today was a pretty good eating day....kashi/skim milk for breakfast, salad for lunch and salad and tomato soup for dinner with a few crackers. I'm trying my Intuitive Eating. I highly recommend this book!

now you're just gettin' going again with the "go Airborne" hahaha... she got me in kickmax I think, "Are you really doing this at home, or just watchin" , in the review no less......sheeese! Stacy said the band work in those wos is good, I know that works great for lat pull downs and those scapula retraction things (sounds like a procedure:confused:)

You make me look like a slacker:D & in my best Bill Murray voice, "I am a slacker"...

Enjoy the rest Stace, just as needed as all the other, about the knees, didn't know if yours are due to past injuries? I had some major inuries many moons ago but one thing I know, from my experience, building the muscles around is crucial, there was so much advancement in this field over a decade (eighties to nineties) procedure & rehab, one thing was overwhelmingly obvious, it's a use it or lose it, issue for me, so I'll be doing squats, pulses & bunny hops forever, I hope:D I do take time with form & I have to really look at stuff, try it super-low impact before though. I appreciate all your reviews, on the book too.

Thanks (as she spins backwards off the chair!)

maybe a Leslie today (silly girls) & coremax 2

Linda

Good Morning!

No Airbornes today Linda - just did Cardio and Weights w/ abs. Really like that circuit training. Finally able to do the plank, push-up, pyramid, plank, side plank move in the chest section - very proud of myself! It is the "little things" that make me know that I am getting better each day.

Finishing my morning with Rodney Yee's A.M. Yoga - great transition from a cardio workout to the day's activities. Plan on doing Physique 57 and StretchMax this evening with my 13yo daughter. She is in Pre-pointe Ballet and can give me some pointers ;) on the P57 moves.

Tomorrow is Cardio Intervals - probably LowMax. If I split my day - I will do Pyramid Lower Premix Up - will just wait and see.

Enjoy your rest day Stacy! :D

Blessings,
Donna

Just one thing - speaking of being "happy about the little things..."

As I have said before - I used to teach yoga and did yoga daily for 30m - 1hr. I can remember being pregnant with my first child at 30 and teaching a class. When I modeled the seated forward bend (we do it in Cathe stretches where you sit down - put one leg in front of the other - and stretch your arms in front - getting down as far as you can) - well, at 9 1/2 months pregnant with a tummy "out to there" - I could fit my tummy in my lap and place my head down on to the floor - ALL THE WAY... Those were the days! :D

When I started back last October - between a "muffin top," inflexibility, and a very painful right knee - the best I could do was decline 30-45 degrees - just barely getting my hands on the floor.

Today - I did a seated forward bend - not my head on the floor yet  but I could almost get there - about 4 inches away. No more painful right knee (from strength training and stretching), no overflowing muffin top, and no more inflexibility.

Small victory I know - but, my days are a chain of small victories! ;)

Thanks for letting me share!

My small victory today was getting out of bed....3 hours of sleep, ugh. I'll catch up more later on this evening, on my way out the door to work. Some evil person dumped 3 inches of snow on our city last night! It was 70 and sunny and I was doing yard work last weekend....what the heck???

Stacy - getting up with 3 hours of sleep takes courage and stamina. I can remember the days of infants - 2 hours up, 2 hours of sleep, and on and on...I still think I am recovering and my youngest is almost 8!

Got LowMax, Basic Abs, and AM Yoga done. On tap to do Pyramid Lower Premix tonight if I can.

Did Physique 57 last night - really like that workout. If you are looking for some good "rear" work - their Express Workout is the answer. My rear and thighs are screaming at the end of that portion of the routine.

Tomorrow is Low Impact Circuit - haven't done that in 10 days - so, it should be interesting.

Keeping my eye out for my GymStyle DVDs - YEA!! :p

Have a great day - really look forward everyday to catching up with you both.

You know - we should strive to reach our fitness goals (whatever they are) by the next Cathe retreat and meet each other...wouldn't that be nice!

Blessings,
Donna
