noisy step workouts

so i workout at 5a.m. in a spare bedroom right next to my bedroom where my DH is sleeping soundly. I really would like to do plyo's or mabe an IMAX workout however the noise from the step is loud when i'm jumping on and off it and it wakes up my hubby. Is there anyway to make it quit? Mabe a mat or something? do you have any tips?

I use a my yoga mat and place it under neath my step it still makes noise but not as much...

I'm in the same boat at 5am with 3 sleeping kids...DH is already off to work. Trying to keep quiet is a challenge. They have gotten used to the pounding of the step (I am down stairs) but the DVD wakes them up..!?! So as long as I keep the sound real low all is well. But hearing it is half the fun. Also when I went to the RT, I still couldn't clap my hands whenever she cued since I NEVER do that for fear of waking them up.:p

Straddle taps are SO hard to try and do quietly! Sorry I'm not much help.:p

I wrap a foam padding around the top and sometimes a blanket (tucking the ends under the corners and sides) to muffle the sound of my feet hitting the top - especially in IMAX 3. I too have to keep the DVD noise down - even though I workout in the basement. The noise seems to travel up the vents to my son's room. He wakes up and comes down and starts talking my ears off (morning person!) while I am trying to finish. He's cute - but I usually lose my focus by then. I do try to sneak in some daytime workouts so I can appreciate the music.
