So what did you think? I thought until the last second the guy with the members only jacket was there for Tony. I think it ended pretty well. I have read that there may be a movie?...

i didn't like the ending at all, i thought they had potential to do much more, and they didn't. i also think it was a weird twist that the fbi guy wound up helping tony in the end, i'm not sure how i feel about that!

i had also heard some rumors about a movie, but i heard that one of the actors (don't know which) said it would be a prequel, not a sequel.

IF there is a movie then they ended right(as long as they pick up the movie where the final show left off), but if not it stunk. (IMHO)

I agree with Kassia... I was left feeling really frustrated. I was convinced Tony was going to go into the witness protection program and turn his life around. Wow, I guess I got that wrong! My mom called me freaking out thinking there was something wrong with her TV because she was recording something else. She thought her TV just stopped and she missed the end of the show! Anyway, my DH was working so he didn't get to see it and I can't wait to see his reaction.

i hated the ending!!!! i was waiting for this episode and though something major was going to happen and then nothing. i actually though our satelitte decided to give out right at that very moment. very disappointed. oh well.....all the other ones were good.

LOL! I thought the same thing!

I thought it was very anticlimactic. During the last 5 minutes of the show the tension kept building, I started biting my nails (haven't done that in at least 10 years!), I kept wondering which of the customers was the hitman & which or how many of Tony's family members would be killed.

On a side note, the way the other mob boss died (can't remember his name) was so freaky & gross!

Definitely got the sense they ended it in the hopes of a movie, much like Sex in the City (yeah we knew Carrie & Big got back together, but we don't know if they got married or broke up yet again).

Or even like GWTW--ended without closure on purpose to leave the outcome to the reader/viewer's imagination.

Either way, it was a great show--well written, well acted & always left me on the edge of my seat. I'm sorry to see it end.

I agree-I did NOT care for the ending At All!

I really liked the ending - you could interpret it however you wanted. At first I thought the "suspicious characters" were FBI guys, because I saw Tony glance at one of them and sort of smile, and thus I figured the family was safe because of Leotardo's death, and they would go into the witness protection program and all would be well and we fans would have our movie in a year of so. BUT this morning I woke up thinking, DUH, Tony got whacked. That's why everything went to silent black, becuase at that moment everything went to silent black for him, that little snippet of the song was the last thing he heard. It was also interesting how Meadow kept having to try to park the car and it ended with her crossing the street - that's the kind of detail she would remember her whole life - "If I'd parked the car sooner I would have actually seen him get shot..." Just my theory. In the LA Times this morning was a big article basically saying everyone HATED the ending and had sent nasty e-mails to HBO saying "we was robbed!!!!"

i understand how both of those scenarios could have been what happened. however, speaking for myself, after 8 years i didn't want to have to guess, i wanted to actually see what happened, you know?

I was actually relieved, if that makes sense. I wasn't loving this final season until the last 3 episodes. It didn't even feel like "the Sopranos" to me.
I was worried Tony would get 'wacked', but when Phil got it, I figured he was safe. I would have been shocked to see him go into the witness protection program, because it would have been completely out of character.
I loved his visits to Janice and Uncle Junior, the way he was so sweet to that cat . . . . .he's just such a complicated character. AJ is a little bit older than my 2nd son, and although they've entirely different in personality, I've nodded in agreement w/ Tony and Carmela's frustration w/ him over the years. I wasn't surprised that he forgot the military in favor of a bogus job and and a BMW: pretty consistent w/ how he's been written. That Meadow's highschool friend Hunter (David Chase's daughter) showed up was great, but I was waiting for the ducks!

OMG Diane... I never thought of what you said but I think you are right!! That was Tony's last moment and we were actually seeing through his eyes what it was like. And Meadow's walking to the door after all that was what she will always remember! NOW I get it ( of course that could be completely opposite of what was intended but I have to say it is a really good point of view!!) Good thinking!

Diane could be right--there are a TON of theories about it:

I couldn't read through all 3000 pages (and we thought THIS forum was active! LOL!) but some interesting things I caught:

--almost all the extras (the guy in the members only jacket, the two black guys who walked in toward the end) were in past episodes either as FBI agents or hitmen
--Meadow, the INCREDIBLY bad parallel parker, was next to a govmt car
--The cat may have been Adriana reincarnated (ROTFLMAO!)

Lots more but like I said, no time to go thru it all. You guys let me know if you find anything else.
;-)

I did think that was funny about the fasination the cat had with Christophers picture.

"--The cat may have been Adriana reincarnated (ROTFLMAO!)"
That is a good one!

"The cat may have been Adriana reincarnated"

That's so funny, I said the exact same thing when I was watching the show.

I really liked the ending. First I was shocked and thought the cable had gone off. But then you could have so many interpretations and the idea that we are seeing through Tony's eyes is intriguing. The idea that he was whacked and it was literally lights out gives you plenty to think about. I really hadn't thought of that!

This morning on MSNBC news they stated that if you read the credits the suspicious man in the jacket at the end was listed as Phil's nephew. I think that was Tony's last moment alive. I really liked the ending. Especially the fact that they always go out with a full length of a song through the credits. This time they went through the full song and when the song stopped we were left with silence. I think it may have implied a long silence, as in death, for our character Tony.

Phil's death was pretty freaky!
