No Sweets Check-In - June 20, 2005

Mornin' all!

Well, we made it through the weekend. One more weekend to go!

I resisted the birthday cake at my SO's family get-together yesterday. It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO tempting though. Afterwards my SO told me it wasn't very good cake, so I'm glad I didn't cheat for something that wouldn't have been worth it.

I was thinking about what I'm going to reward myself with when this challenge is over and it occurred to me that rewarding myself with a big gooey sweet thing would be completely defeating the purpose, and so I thought I'd reward myself with some new workout wear instead:)

Since you ladies have been doing this for a little while now what differences are you noticing in your body? Just curious.:)

Good idea, Shelley!

I, on the other hand, gorged myself on my one and only cheat day for the month at my daughter's birthday party. It came at the right time as PMS was rearing it's ugly head. I had TWO pieces of cake, and TWO ice cream sundaes and FOUR Oreo Cookies. I have to tell you, it wasn't the nirvana that I was building it up to be. In fact, I paid for it on Sunday with a massive sugar hangover headache. Yuck. I'll stick to eating healthy from now on, thankyouverymuch!

I LOVE that idea! I really need some new cute workout clothes too - especially if I don't want to look like a dork on the road trip. ;) Well, I always look like a dork, but you know what I mean...

I don't think there's any reason for us to fall right back into our old sugary habits once the month is over. What good would that do? That doesn't mean I won't indulge in a cookie every now and then. But it won't be every day like it used to be!

Sabrina - to answer your question about changes we've noticed... well, personally, I've lost 7 pounds (probably a result of both giving up sweets and becoming a vegetarian), I no longer have daily tension headaches, my sweet cravings are greatly diminished, and if I DO taste something sweet, it's really not all that exciting for me.

I think this challenge is a great idea! Too bad not all the sugar eating forum members have joined you ladies. }(

I just want to add that once your challenge is over...change your attitude from that of it being a 'challenge' to that of it being a lifestyle. None of us needs to eat sugar (cookies, candy, cake, etc.) on a daily basis. And no one needs to eat TWO ice cream sundaes in one day either!!!:9

We all know that sugar is bad for us and we need to keep the focus on good health for the long run...not that 15 minute indulgence. A sugar addiction is just as real as a nicotine addiction or an alcoholic addiction...and potentially just as harmful.

I try really hard to avoid sugar and once you kick it, you're home free. I don't keep candy in the house. Chocolate is my weakness. I'm not a big cake or ice cream eater so I never miss that sort of stuff. But on the ocassion when I do eat a handful of Dove chocolates, I indeed suffer with a sugar headache.

The benefits from not eating sugary junk foods on a routine basis is you will have better weight maintenence, less headaches, more energy, and a happier pancreas. :D

Emily - LOL! It's like I always say - if the pancreas is happy, everybody's happy!

Good point, 40something - it's definitely become more of a lifestyle than a challenge. I certainly won't feel deprived after the month is over - it will be my CHOICE if I want to indulge in something sweet.

Oh, but I have to say I DID need those 2 sundaes in one day - it was a huge sacrifice so that someone else would not be forced to ingest unnecessary sugar and succumb to a painful sugar hangover. Just something I had to do as a selfless act of kindness. :p

Angie, it is selfless people like you that make the world a better place. You should be awarded a medal or something for eating those 2 sundaes! ;)

**sigh** Alas, I am but a silent hero. I will suffer in silence for the good of the community. Just call me Saint Angie. ;)

But if those are CHOCOLATE medals we're talking about, count me in!!

Hi everyone,

I have been sugar free so far today. And let me tell you I was tempted at the grocery store today. I saw some carrot cake muffins, and I love some of carrot cake. I told my son that I need to get out of the grocery store before I break down. My son said, Mom you need to quit that sugar deal. I told him he didn't know what he was talking about. But I went out of the store without those muffins. Also thinking of you ladies and didn't want to come back and say I caved in.

This challenge came at a very good time when I'm not able to do cardio right now. So it has help me from gaining any weight. Even though I've had a few slip ups it has done great for me.

I have done so well until yesterday and the cupcakes we bought for Father's Day. Today I actually toasted a Poptart. I only ate the edges though and then pitched it. It's the last week of PMS for me and I cannot believe how that suddenly turns me into a sugar craving she beast. Boo. :(

I know how you feel... I am in the belly of the beast now.... :( I had a lean roast beef sandwich for lunch and a cup of papaya, then went back for a cup of grapes, then ate a low-fat Yoplait yogurt (with Splenda)... this is a lot of food it just isn't cutting it. I NEED CHOCOLATE!!! Then I remember, oh yeah.. no sugar... and I am cutting my caffeine down and chocolate has caffeine (why didn't I think of that before I started this insanity!!!)... I think I'll just die a slow death....

I have to confess that I had cake at my MIL's for her birthday. Tell the truth I didn't even want it, but I also didn't want to get the letter in the mail featuring "Why doesn't my daughter-in-law like me". These have been to numerous to count in the past. x( I try to avoid them like the plague!

Well i made it through the weekend. I resisted this great big chocolate cake with yummy dark icing and a hot apple pie with vanilla ice cream... man they looked sooooooo good. But i didn't even have a little taste! I should have saved a piece so i could have it in july:9

I did good yesterday. Today may be another story. I am in a bad mood today for reason that would be long to mention here. I just did bodymax and that helped some. I have to go to the store for skim mik so I best get in and get out or I may want a carrot cake muffin like Kim did. Hey she didn't though so I will try to be strong! Ever have a day where you think "WHAT IS LIFE ALL ABOUT"? Oh well sorry for whining!
