No Smoking

This is my first day of trying to not smoke after 10 years. I think the main thing (very vain) that has prevented me from trying earlier is that I am afraid I will gain weight.

Anyone stop and manage to maintain their weight?

Thanks.
Pat

Hi Pat,

YES!!!!!! I stopped smoking after 9 1/2 years (I've been quit now for almost 6 years). Not only did I NOT gain weight, but I LOST 10 lbs. due to being able to exercise again. When I smoked, I was completely out of breath. I would feel very light-headed and faint after climbing one set of stairs. AND I WAS ONLY 28 YEARS OLD!!!!!! It was amazing how much better my breathing was just after 2 weeks of not smoking. I started walking/running again just to keep me busy and keep my mind off of smoking. Also, I was determined for once to do something FOR my lungs instead of against them. Before long (about 2 months) I was up to running 2 miles. Then in about 3 more months, I had made it to 6 miles!!!! I was thrilled. I started doing every 5K race in town. At most races, you get a T-shirt for participating. My T-shirts still mean so much to me. They remind me of how I finally took charge of my own health. YES, you can quit smoking without gaining weight! You may even find yourself pleasantly surprised when you become more active than ever and find yourself losing weight like I did!!

Good luck to you. I'll be thinking about you.

That was my worry also that I would gain weight but I got to a point where I decided that it was more important to quit and be healthy. I continued to exercise and I didn't gain a pound. I was also very careful of what I ate.

Good Luck!!!
