Night Sweats...thoughts?

Hi All!

Hoping to get some ideas on this. For the last several years, since I was @ 34 to lately, 38, I get the night sweats a lot! So much that at times i put a towel underneath me and my hair is drenched (too tired to change sheets in middle of night). Then, cuz I'm wet with sweat, it's a hot and cold thing...cold so I cover, then I get hot....

any thoughts on reasons this could happen? I think it's too early for the hormonal change??

ETA: this happens all year in cold or hot weather

TIA

I swear, I could have written your post! AND I'M ONLY 24!!! I've suffered with night sweats for years and I have no idea why. Some nights I actually have to get up and take a shower in the middle of the night and/or change my clothes.

My boyfriend just looooves that. Ya. Sure.:(

I wish I had some advice for ya. Good luck!

I get night sweats in the summer time but not in the cooler weather ( cool for Florida). I also get the cold and hot thing going on. Covers come off then the covers go on this goes on all night long. I am 41. I don't know if it's the change or not.

I'm 40 & I've had night sweats since I was in my 20s. My ex hubby used to call me his little nuclear reactor (or is that nucular reactor? :D). I sleep w/a/c or windows open 365 nights a year. Usually I wake up around 3 or 4 for a potty break & my body temp drops. I never found out why I get them, & it doesn't seem to effect my health in any way.

Night sweats are frequently caused by a drop in estrogen levels which is why many women get them during menopause. That said, estrogen levels fluctuate during menstrual cycles too so non-menopausal women can get them. You might try changing your birth control method (if you are on the pill for example) and see if that helps or ask your gyno for other suggestions. Some people find soy products can impact their estrogen levels so they either avoid/seek it depending on their personal response. Finally, there's an discussion/argument out there that certain plastic containers leach estrogen impacting compounds into food/beverages and that can also cause problems.

So, yeah, there's a lot of reasons night sweats happen, but bottom line, they still suck! HTH!

I, too, have had the exact same problem you have had for about the past 6 months (I'm 43). I really just thought it was pre-menopausal stuff, but now I'm wondering since some of you having the same problems are so young. It doesn't happen every night, but at least 4 out of 7 nights. I live in Texas and at night I keep our air FREEZING, so I know that it's not because it's hot, etc. (the rest of my family are freezing all night and have to have LOTS of blankets). I sweat like a pig and then get really cold when I take covers off. It's really annoying -- I have to get up a few times a night and change clothes (and put a towel down like you said!). I plan to ask my doctor at my next checkup to see what this is -- if anyone knows, please fill us in!!!

I began night sweats after the birth of my first child(age 20). That is also the time my hormonally triggered migraines began. I get migraines when my estrogen drops sharply. BC pills can help even it out, but I was too afraid of all the side effects. Now I take a low dose BC pill to control my irregular periods because I'm peri-menopausal. I still get night sweats.

Night sweats and migraines. Hormones are a beautiful thing.

Black Cohash works well for me. I purchased 2 boxes of vitamin supplements. One box has not been used. Anyway, there are 2 packs of supplements, one for am/ one for pm. The pm has black cohash in it. Hadn't had a night sweat in a long time.

Well I don't know what causes night sweats but my grown son has endured them for years. He is 30 now and still gets them. Guess it is not estrogen!

Wow, glad to know I'm not alone on this but sorry you are all with me!! I've had them since I was in my mid-twenties. Night Sweats can be a sign of cancer--I did have blood work done to rule that out--but other than that, or menopause, my doctor said a lot of people get them with no reason at all. So it's just something I kind of deal with--and keep a change of clothes and a a couple of towels on the floor next to my bed at night. But it's so strange to go to sleep, wake up in the middle of the night dripping like you did Drill Max, and all you did was SLEEP!! LOL!

I get them during ovulation and during my period. They are also a lot less now than they were before I lost 40 pounds. I am 47, so I guess I should expect it, they started mid-30's, but at age 40 I lost weight and it helped.

Oh yes, get them lots. Not every night though. MMMMM. I have to get up and change my t-shirt. Neck is drenched. I've also been dreaming more. Actually since we moved to Vancouver Island. (Lived in Minnesota for the last 8 years)

I got back on BC and no more night sweats (which started to happen I'd say every other month). Mine were so bad I'd have to get up and change and lay on new area of the bed...yuck! I'm 38 and they started in the last year or so...bleh, bleh, and bleh. There are many options to try if you don't want to go on BC. I just couldn't give up my coffee. The BC has helped me in other ways as well. I hope you find a solution that works for you!
