New

I am 39 years old and need to lose 60 more pounds. I have been trying to eat right and excercise at least 3 times a week for the last two months. I am ready to incorporate weight lifting into my program and would like to know if the Power Hour program is too much for me. I would appreciate any information that you can give me.
Thanks....midtwngirl

Hello and welcome!

Any weight training workout can be modified. Use lighter weights, or don't do all the reps. I appreciate the challenge that Cathe gives me, she's an inspiration. I can't lift as heavy as she does, and I'm at my goal weight and have been regularly excersizing for two years, 6x per week.

Congratulations on your commitment to fitness - way to go!

Diane

First welcome. If you are a beginner in weight training you can use the BS/BF dvd.In this workout Cathe uses tubing but you can use dumbbells. Next you can go to the PP/SS dvd of the intensty series. enjoy.Power Hour is an awesome endurance weight workout but to start with the weight training.Happy to have you here.

I agree Power Hour would be great to start with. Of course, you need to start out your weights much lower than Cathe and then gradually build up.

Push Pull and Super Sets would also be a good first for you.

I agree with Push Pull and Supersets as good places to start. Or, in fact, Cathe's MIS (Maximum Intensity Strength) which is more comprehensive than either of the other two and is where I started, having never previously lifted a dumbell in my life. I just followed Cathe, did all the exercises, but took longer breaks when needed and used the weight loads that were right for me.

If you are looking to lose 60 pounds, you might consider keeping your three days cardio which you already do, and ading an additional two days of weight training. This would be an optimum program for fat loss. As you know, muscle tissue burns more calories than fat tissue, and your metabolism stays raised for longer after weight training than after cardio. But both activities are essential for health and weight loss.

Good luck and congrats on your dedication toyour own well being!

Everyone has given you excellent advice. If you go to the forum that discusses the videos and dvds, one of the first posts has a list of all the workouts with a "level of difficulty" rating. I think Power hour would be a great ADDITION to your cardio. Your ready!

My advice, don't get discouraged if you can't keep up with Cathe. Keep at if. You will be learning from the pro! Also, once you find yourself progressing you can say "Wow, I am getting closer and closer to keeping up with the absolute best!"

Good Luck and congratulations on your decision to take care of yourself! Keep it up and your only regret will be not doing it sooner! Stick around here for encouragement and motivation!

Thanks for the welcome. I was definitely inspired after watching the show. I will order the dvd and modify the weights. Thanks for the input....Teresa
