Hi..I am new to Cathe. I had just ordered the MM dvd and then before it arrived I fell off my motorcycle and really messed up my shoulder!! So, being the optimist that I am, I went out and bought my step and weights anyway and am patiently waiting for the shoulder to heal enough to use it! In the meantime, when I got my step it included the basic step and cardio and weights (circuit?) with it! So I started the basic and mastered it (pretty much) in a couple
of sessions. But the other one, cardio and weights, I feel completely uncoordinated and I am a pretty active person. Has anyone else taken a long time to master the step? I've done it twice and I can get through it endurance wise, but boy do I feel dorky! And I'm using five pound weights till my shoulder heals.
Does anyone have advice regarding step, and also I would like to add Kickmax next. Will that be hard on the shoulder also, should I wait?
Thanks!!

Hi there. Welcome to the forum.

Don't you worry, you are not the only one around here who has or has had a hard time mastering a step work out! I was always HORRIBLE at step but when I discovered Cathe and her basic step work out I finally was able to start catching on. If you have a hard time with a step work out, break it down. Cathe usually breaks her step work outs down into sections/segments. Do one segment at a time until you are comfortable with it and then move on to the next. This is the best way to learn it, IMO.

As for Kickmax...I find a some of the kicking/punching combos a little tricky and it took some time for me to get them down. Beyond that, the choreo is basic but watch out for the bootcamp challenge! That part will kick your butt! }( It's lots of high impact and gets you very winded fast!

HTH!:)

Hi Paula! WELCOME!!! Sorry to hear about your shoulder. I would think any punching would aggitate it but only you can tell. If you are looking for a fairly easy choreographed kickbox routine, Cathe's "Kickbox" tape from the Cross Train Express Series is great fun and easy to master but still a good solid workout. Keep at it with step. It gets easier & easier the more you do it and like Wendy said, just keep rewinding a re-doing each segemnt til you get it down. The more you get used to Cathe's choreo the easier it will become. Nice to have you join us!

Hello and Welcome!

I am pretty new to Cathe also (November) and the only step I had really done previously was Step Reebok - pretty simple. So when I first started doing Cathe's workouts, it was tough for me with all the turning, etc (even though I loved it!). But after doing a few of them, I started to get used to her style. It really didn't take very long. I've even just about mastered Rhythmic Step and I've probably only done it about 4 or 5 times. That feels great! So hang in there and you will be a pro before you know it! Her choreography is so nice because it's always interesting.

Good luck with your shoulder and have fun around here. It's addicting!

Hi and welcome to the Cathe boards! It's always great to have someone new here. Don't ask me about step workouts--I'm a hopeless klutz!!

Michele:)

Welcome you will find a lot of very motivating helpful people on this board.
I did the same as you, got my step and it came with Cardio and Weights. As others suggested, learn it a segment at a time and rewind often. I find it helpful to count the number or beat of a move I am having trouble with - if Cathe starts on the right foot, that is one, two, three four, - I hope you understand - it helps!!

The step in Cardio and Weights is actually a good foundation for other Cathe step videos.

Hope your shoulder heals so you can get started soon.

Practice, Practice, Practice.
