New to Cathe

Hi - I'm completely new to Cathe and would really appreciate your input/advice. A friend gave me Cathe's "How to Get In Shape For Your Wedding Video" (I'm already married, but she suggested it as a good workout) and I really like it. I'm 43, probably an "intermediate" exerciser (I mix Firm home workouts and work out at the gym about an hour a day, 6 days/week, doing a mix of cardio and weight training), but a beginner on the step (choreography is very challenging for me, so I need to advance slowly here). I'd like to start a Cathe rotation (can probably find some on this site??) but don't know where to start. Any suggestions?? Or if not rotations, what would be some good starting videos for me?

Thanks so much.

Hi Barbara!

Welcome to the Cathe addiction! My suggestion for a great workout to start with is CTX. It's a complete six-day rotation in itself. It gives a little bit of everything as far as cardio. The upper body and ab work is great, and Leaner Legs is a killer!

As far as rotations go, there is a rotation section in the forums. Cathe does do a rotation every month, and there is an index of past rotations as well. Good luck!

Hi Barbara,

I am pretty new to Cathe myself, it's been almost a month. I got the "Basic Step and Body Fusion" (which has 2 seperate workouts as well as separate chapters for lower body, upper body and abs) and "High Step Circuit" first. I too have had trouble with difficult choreography, and found that Cathe goes through each move slowly 1st then speeds it up and I GOT IT PRETTY EASILY! Both are listed Beginner/Intermediate and I consider myself Intermediate level and I SWEAT ALOT with these two. (I've now gone on to order more Cathe dvds, I am definitely hooked!)

If you go to the Rotations on the forums, you can find a rotation that uses just those videos. (I think it's labeled as Beginner/Intermediate rotation...)

Hope that helps. (Cathe is also coming out with some new Beginner/Intermediate videos within the next week or so...) By the way, I think that you could use the videos I mentioned before even as you advance, by using a higher step, heavier weights, etc...)

I have Basic Step/Body Fusion and I do them with an 8" step and heavier weights and find I get a pretty good workout. I really like the core workout with the stabilitly ball at the end.

I just bought the full-sized club step and it came with Basic Step and Cardio & Weights, so I will try those. I think, after reading about some of the workouts, that CTX may be too advanced for me at this point, but I definitely plan to work up to it. I'll be very interested to hear the feedback on the new workouts coming in September! Thanks for all your tips and advice.

Hi Barbara,

Another idea for workouts to try: the first thread on this forum is the "Ultimate Updated Guide to Cathe's Workouts", which ranks all Cathe workouts in terms of intensity from easiest to most challenging. I've found it to be very accurate as far as what is within my reach and what might be too easy (or hard) for me at this point in my fitness journey. Have a look around the Guide, check out the clips online and maybe you'll find some more workouts you'd enjoy.
