New to Cathe

I am a new user of Cathe's tapes. My first tape was BodyMax, which I tried for the first time and loved it. The choreography was very well cued and I enjoyed doing the body strengthening at the end of the tape. After enjoying BodyMax so much I decided to purchase the DVD set "Rhythmic Step+". I first tried MIC and then Interval Max. OMG, it was tough but I definitely enjoyed it. I did manage to get through both workouts. Then I tried Rhythmic Step and almost gave up. I had so much trouble following Cathe, but focused on finishing her tape which I did.

Does anyone have any suggestions on some of Cathe's step tapes which has some easy choreography? I was thinking about purchasing the CTX DVD, but unsure. Any help, I would appreciate it.

Hi, Erinjames! Welcome to the Cathe Klatsch, where we specialize in spending your money for you!

I do think the CTX DVD would be a great next step for you, as it has a variety of cardio modes including step, kickbox and hi/lo, AND it has great targeted strengthening and ab routines that take you to the next level beyond Body Max and which are very important to a well-rounded program.

Also consider investing in the soon-to-be-released Intensity Series, which includes step as well as Boot Camp, kickbox and heaven-knows-what strength and endurance routines!

Hope this helps -

For 'getting down' Cathe's choreography, what helped for me was using the workouts on the Classics Vol One DVD and Cardio Hits DVD, as well as the Wedding tape. In some of her newer workouts, it's kind of assumed that you are already familiar with her step moves, so she doesn't spand a lot of time breaking things down for you. In the earlier workouts mentioned above, she breaks down the moves more thoroughly. So, if you get bored easily, are very comfortable with your step, and like to be constantly challenged by new step moves in your first few tries at a workout, dive right in! But if you are a slow learner, like me, I'd invest in some of her older step workouts to break yourself in. My two cents: if you got body max right away, I'd say you can pretty much take your pick of whatever catches your fancy.

Thanks Kathy for the advice on purchasing some of Cathe's earlier tapes to learn Cathe's choreography.

For the past 10 years, I have been addicted to The Firm. Then one night, I went on Video Fitness web site and learned about Cathe's tapes and how excellent they are and decided to purchase one. I can't believe how good they are. My only problem is learning the choreography. I was actually thinking about purchasing the Wedding tape, but thought it might be too easy for me. I have no problem with Body Max, Interval Max, MIC but once I did Rythmic Step, I almost turned the tape off.

I enjoy doing both step and strength training in 1 workout. Will the Wedding tape be challenging enough for me?

Also, I have a 12 pound barbell, 10, 7, 5 and 3 pound weights. Cathe is using a 35 pound barbell and much heavy weights. Though I can probably increase my weight because what I am using is challenging but I know I can handle more, I am afraid that increasing my weight will make me too muscular. What size weights are you using?

Hi! Two comments for you:
1. Don't be too frustrated with Rhythmic Step. Cathe actually cues most of the moves AS she's doing them, rather than BEFORE. Just watch the tape a couple of times through, and you should be fine. With that one, you kind of have to know what's coming. The moves aren't really that hard, its the cueing!! (No offense intended, Cathe...)

2. I use moderate weights (maybe even light, as far as these lovely ladies are concerned!): 8,10,15 lb dumbells and 20-40 lb. barbell, and believe me, I'm not too muscular! You'll love it :)

Welcome to the wonderful world of Cathe!

Hi,
I started with Cathe last year and was totally way over my head. But now I can follow along rather well. I don't think you really need to get older tapes at all. I started out with BMax and Pmax but what really helped was CMax and Power Circuit ... after those two it was Rhythmic Step for me. I remember being so confused when I first tried BMax and PowerMax but after mastering RS ... I can follow along most of her workouts as she cues now. She's excellent at cuing!
