New to Cathe-? about what DVD seriesto buy first....

I have tried a couple of Cathe's workouts on fit tv (slow and heavy series, core max), I am looking for a the best all around series to invest in first for weight training-I am on a very limited budget, so I can only get 1 set every few months. I am beginner/intermediate level right now, and I have 3lb-15lb hand weights, the club step/2 risers, and stability ball. What would you guys recommend to get me started?

First, I would invest in a barbell! Get the one with quick release ends or you'll be hating it. Second, IMO Cathe's Gym Styles series is a great all around weight program to start out with.
If that's too much you could purchase her Pure Strength DVD. Either way you will need a barbell:)

Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.

Hello,

Do you want to try heavy weight training or just want to get started with weights? I started with MIS DVD which has Power Hour (PH), BodyMax and Maximum Intensity Strength (MIS). This DVD has cardio workout with weight training and some heavy (ish) and one body pump type workout. It's older than the other series but because there are 3 different workouts on one DVD and cheaper than the later series, it's the best to get started with. You won't have the extras like premixes but since you are new you probably won't need them yet. You can substitute barbell for dumbbells for most of the exercises.

If you are looking for heavy weight training I think Slow & Heavy is very good because it uses mostly dumbbells, except for legs. You can substitute the barbell for dumbbells in the legs section. Other series are more reliant on barbell.

I could reccommend other workouts which are newer but the older series use less equipment and, in my experience, better to start with. My personal favourite is the Intensity series with Pyramids and IMAX2.

I agree someday you should invest in a barbell, but when first starting out dumbells can be substituted for most any workout that uses a barbell. If you are tight on money and simply want to focus on weight lifting I think the Pure Strength dvd would be a great place to start b/c Cathe includes form pointers. I also think the suggestion for MIS/PH/BMax dvd would be good too, however my husband who reallly isnt into weight lifteing thought Power Hour was way too fast. PH and MIS are total body workouts, whereas Pure Strength is a split. A head's up on Body Max...it's her fastest paced step workout, took me awhile to learn it, but that's just me!

Good Luck. Let us know what you decide!
