new to board

I have been using Cathe's tapes (MIS, PS, and body Max) I just ordered the body blast series on vhs. Reading this board, I wonder if I should start getting dvd's. I don't have a dvd player in my workout room and all my videos are vhs. Is is really worth the extra money or should I just stick with vhs.
Also, I am new to this board and I love it. I'm getting excited to start using Cathe's tapes again.
Thanks!
Lizzy

Welcome!!! You'll probably get mixed responses, but I for one do more of Cathe's DVD premix workouts, than the as produced versions. Her DVDs are fabulous. If you do get a DVD player, I'd like to recommend getting the multi-disc kind. This way you really can customize a workout with bits and pieces from each of her workouts.

Welcome! And I second Jillybean's emotions.

The DVD's offer so many more options with the premixes and bonus features to make each week, in fact each session, a new creative opportunity for you. Switching from her vids to her DVD's has blown the ceiling off of my cardio training and improvement.

I also agree with Beans that, if you're going to purchase a DVD player, a multi-disc (3- or 5-disc) player that zips among 3-5 discs without having to futz around with putting discs in and out is awesome. Sony has a good (and always getting better) couple of models that you can buy, I'd bet, for under $170.00.

SNM itself has stated at least once before here on the Forums that VHS is a shrinking market for its company; I'd predict that Cathe will discontinue producing any more workouts within a year or two.

Welcome aboard!

RE: OOPS

Welcome to the board Lizzy,
I agree with Jilly and AJ. The DVD's offer much more options. If you get a player get the 3 or 5 disc option. Videos are on the way out just like the 8 track. So I bit the bullet and bought a Sony DVD player this spring. I still haven't done all the workouts available on the Intensity Series.
This new Blast series coming out will have even more options on the DVD than the IS had. They just keep getting better and better. :D
When you get a player, you will wonder how you got by without it.

(we all know how to spend other people's money here. LOL)
Happy workouts.

i replaced the 5 or 6 cathe vhs that i had with her ENTIRE dvd collection and it is truly one of my bset decisions ever made. i'm going to ask santa for a mini portable dvd player and screen so i can take cathe with me to our lake house next summer!!! my vhs flew out the window trading at video fitness and ebay!!! just do it!!}(

RE: OOPS

Thanks everyone for your imput. It does seem like the best idea to invest in the player since I plan on investing in most of Cathe's workouts. I hope I can send back the blast series I ordered and get the dvd. Thanks again!
Lizzy

Welcome to the board!
I am a total DVD convert! The difference between video and DVD is like the difference between audio cassettes and CD. The picture and sound are much better. And SNM keeps raising the bar as far as options and variety. The Intensity Series has by far the best options, such as premixes and combos, which you can't get at all on video. It sounds like the Body Blast series will offer even more bells and whistles! It's definitely going to be worth getting on DVD!
As for the other workouts you already have: the earlier DVD's such as these don't offer premixes or combos, and the chaptering on some of them is very minimal, so since you already have them, I wouldn't replace them with DVD until they wear out. If you were buying from scratch, I'd still recommend DVD's.

I'd say go with DVD's as you get so many more options with them. Also, no annoying rewinding/fast forwarding anymore which takes a lot of time.

RE: OOPS

Hi Lizzy and welcome:) Like everyone said dvd is the best. Why don't you email SNM and see if you can change your order to DVD. I don't see why they don't.

RE: Hey Lizzy!

Hey Lizzie!
I agree with them-alls! Get the DVD player, even a cheap one-disc player would work. I have a 5-disc player but honestly I usually use only one disc at a time.

In case you are on a budget or just a selective tightwad like me!

Hi Lizzy,
welcome! I guess it is entirely up to yourslef weather you want to buy DVDs or not.I personally, will stick to VHS.I know that they are not as modern but I have a 7 yr old and she knows how to put DVDS in and out of the DVD player.I have one DVD and that the terminator. And I had to tell her that I NEVER want to see her with this in her hand.DVD's are so fragile and if they scratch , they are ruined, then you have to buy another one.In my opion VHS can stand up to alot more wear and tear.
Either way, enjoy your workouts!

Hi Lizzy,
Here is another vote for DVD's! Last year I discovered Cathe and bought 6 videos. I have kept the videos and bought everything else by Cahte on DVD! I am slowly replacing my videos with her DVD's! There is no going back as far as I am concerned. Clear picture, quality sound, premixes galore, my own mixture of workouts...no boredom and endless options! Cathe's DVD's come with a lifetime guarantee so you just can't go wrong. LOVE Cathe's DVD's! Welcome and enjoy!

Hey Lori!

Actually DVD's are very durable. Plus, if you do have a problem with them, SNM have a lifetime guarantee on them. I find that if fingerprints get on them, they will skip, but easily handled by cleaning. Just wanted to let you know. You SURE you don't want to make the switch???? :p

Better late than never!

Lizzy, just wanted to say welcome back to the crowd! We're glad to have you!

I'm also chiming in with the "GO DVD" vote. I have have my rotgut Phillips $98 single-disc DVD player in my workout cubby since Cathe started producing DVD's (Santa Claus brought it to me). I'd love to replace it with a multi-disc -- but the point for you just is that even with the clumsiness of a single-disc player, Cathe's DVDs are so superior in content, and DVD generally is SO superior to VHS technologically, that I can't imagine investing in another Cathe VHS tape.

Just a suggestion -- take it or leave it. (Gee, who says that?:))

RE: Better late than never!

Hi Lizzy! Welcome to Cathe land! Like most posters have said, DVD is THE way to go. The possibilities with DVD are endless. I replaced all my Cathe vids with DVD. Again, welcome, and have a great weekend!:7

RE: Better late than never!

Thank you so much everyone! I just emailed smv and requested the dvd instead of vhs. Then I asked my husband for a 5disc dvd player for our 3 year anniversary. Hopefully I won't have a problem changing the order since I hadn't received it yet.
Thanks again!!!!
Lizzy

I am sure that you will love the DVD's. We have three players in our house not counting a lap top which was great for our vacation, and my husbands computer. There are so many options with Cathe even if it is a one disc player. Just jump to what you want to do with Cathe's workouts. It is so much easier than finding the right spot on a tape. I have one multi disc player but actually have not tried it. By my choice. I still use the one disc player. I tried to program it one morning and decided that I was wasting workout time. It is still easy to just put them in and start where ever you want to.
