New Statistics in Canada

Good morning Everyone,
I was out getting my coffee just then,and I heard two important things on the radio.
1.U2 is going on tour in March. DH and I are diffently going to that.
2.Airlines are going to increase their prices due to the # of overweight people in Canada.The average size for a man is 206 lbs and for a women it is 171 lbs.It as tripled since last year,from 5% to 15%.

Wow! I didn't realize Canadians were as big as Americans. There you go...the American attitude that we're bigger than everyone, eh?

Hi Lori,

Well as everyone knows, the reason for this problem is because Canadians insist on flying everywhere they go! If they would only walk instead of taking the airplane, we wouldn't have the obesity problem we have today.

I am drastically under the 171lb female average weight. Do I get a discount, since it doesn't cost as much to levitate my a$$ across the country?

Well, when I was in Canada, I didn't notice a lot of overweight people. But that was years ago. And we drove, we didn't fly.

Hey, now I'm in Texas and everything is bigger in Texas. (So they say...the people SURE ARE bigger.)

That what i was thinking but I didn't want to be mean about it.I know there are plenty of people in the world who are over weight and can't help it.But now cost of flying is going to go up for us b/c others cannot control what goes in their mouthes.Why should we have to pay for others problems.
I work for an airline so I won't have to worry about this BUT I figure alot of people will want explanations.Its Transport Canada regulations and as nothing to do with the airlines.Before a plane gets off of the ground, the weight and balance as to be called in.In order to do this,they prodict how much a man,women and child weigh,then they add in the approx.weight of luggage.Obviously we must be burning more fuel which would make the cost of air fair go up.
If you have two average people in a car it wouldn't burn as much gas as it would if you had 5 overweight people in the car,right? It all makes sense, its just not fair.But then again, is anything?

Oh, I think it's just a ridiculous excuse made up by the airlines for making people pay higher fares. I have no doubt that the costs of flying has increased in recent years, but highly doubt that the increasing average weight of the population is a truly significant contribution.

Shirley, apparently Houston, Texas is the most "obese" city in the US. I guess all those deep-fried Texas-sized portions are to blame. I'm starving. I could use a meal like that right now. Good thing I live so far away.

It isn't airlines....it is Transport Canada and whatever they say...goes.Luggage allowance,size of kennels,you name it,they are the bosses and if you don't follow the rules...the fines are HUGE!
