Hi.
I started a new social group. "for beginners and intermediates" -- for people wanting support and information as to getting started to fitness, or intensifying their current programs. Needless to say, more advanced exercizers are invited to join, to help out others. Particulars can be found here:

(You may have to be logged on to access the above -- I am not sure).

p.s. I am repeating this post in the "check-ins & challenges" forum.

Hey David,
Took a break there. I finally decided on a Cathe dvd. I purchased 4 Day Cardio Split. After viewing all the clips, what seemed like a thousand times, I picked this one because of the agility needed, (notice I said needed, am hoping to develop it) and the fact that it had weight work in it also. I wouldn't have to worry about splitting up what routine what day.
It didn't take long to get them, and I was watching the boot camp one, and holy cow!! That is all I can say. My next thing is, how am I going to make myself do this? Holy cow!!
It will be either sink or swim. I am hoping it will be swim. I start exercising tomorrow. We'll see how wiped out I am after it.
I tried to get the rotation of this on the workout manager, but I couldn't pull this one up, so I just printed it.
I am going to have to get a step, I was hoping i could get by without it. Steps are not my favorite, and grace and coordination are not my names. I wish they were. But until I do, I am just going to use my exercise mat, and use that as a guide. Hopefully that will work.
I know that if I succeed, I will be stronger than I ever was before, but I know I will have to about knock myself out getting there. We'll see. A day at a time.

The strenth sessions on 4DS are very doable...

Scapquilter,
Thanks for your post. You say that it is "sink or swim" for you. As a number of wise posters have said on different Cathe's forum pages, that for people to improve their health, they first have to make a firm commitment to themselves to do so. So I am rooting for you to say you're going to swim!

One thing: One idea is to go into the menu of 4DS, and click onto the two "strenth only" sections -- upper body and lower body -- and do these as "strength days". I found these two strength parts very doable -- just lower the poundage to what you can do. If there is a very hard exercize on the video, just substitute something easy in its place. Also, the kickboxing section is doable, if you slow down and modify the moves to your level. You mention your lack of "agily" for step videos. Me too! So I am looking for other kickboxing videos, since they are easier to handle for water buffaloes like me.

FInally, if you can afford it, buy Cathe's "Basic Step" -- which is good for beginners. I alternate aerobics days with strength days, for six days a week -- with one day off. This has helped me out a lot. I recommend this very basic rotation for anyone getting started. I am rooting for you!

There's that 'IF' word. Don't set yourself up for failure or give yourself an excuse to stop Saying 'if' will make it more okay if you sink as opposed to swim because you didn't start out by saying 'when' you succeed. To me, it sounds like you are expecting to be able to do everything from the get go. That may be the case with other instructors, but is rarely the case with Cathe. David gave you some good tips. Modify where you need to. If you need to go a bit slower, that's fine. And become familiar with the premixes. No one says you have to be able to do the whole thing the very first time. Do what you can...if you don't complete it all, then the next time you do it strive to go a little further than the previous time.

You don't really want to get a workout you can do all of the very first time. You want it to be challenging so that you can grow with the workout. You can do this! Enjoy it and if you find the workout difficult to get the moves down, do another form of exercise and near the end tack on a segment of Cathe's workout to do to work on the routine (I've done this to learn some of her step workouts so I still get in a workout while I'm trying to learn the moves). When you can complete the various segments then you can do the whole workout and know that you are able to do all the moves.

Happy exercising!
