NEW RUNNERS MAY 2010

Hi ladies -

Tricia - I'm glad we can share the personal stuff here. Between my digestion and your hemorroid we are some group! LOL

Hi everyone! I think swimming in the rain would be cool as long as the water was warm (both the pool and the rain).

Ran 3 last night in the humid sauna known as northern Illinios. Tried out my headlamp and flashlight - fun. :)

I have a rest day scheduled but don't feel like resting. We'll see - busy night with the kids.

Hi Everyone,

I didn't have to swim in the rain since it didn't rain! Yay! I swam a total of 60 laps. I did 3:00 work/1:00 rest. It worked out really.

Tonight I'm going for a 3 mile run.

I'm really busy at work so I can't stay long.

Hope everyone is having a great day!!

Hi Ladies!

Cindi - You're too funny! We are quite a pair, aren't we? LOL! Sounds like a nice run! I know what you mean about rest days - sometimes I just don't really feel like I need it! Have fun, whatever you do!

Jane - 60 laps! Wow! That's awesome to me since I don't swim well. Certainly, I'm not good enough for it to count for fitness! Enjoy your run!

I finally got my lazy butt out of bed this morning to get back into my early workout routine and did Step Works. I would have done IMAX or something, but didn't want to push my luck since I'm still battling that little issue. So, I took it kind of easy and then just did some plank work for my abs. Tomorrow, I'm going to try to get a run in early.

I'm so ready for everything to be resolved so I can get back to my weights and interval workouts! Slowly, but surely . . .

I didn't get to run yesterday. Today I walked two miles with a girlfriend. Pip Squeak was diagnosed with a partial ACL tear last night after she quit in agility class. She *never* quits at anything so I knew something was seriously wrong. I'm dogsitting for my dogsitter :p this week so my schedule is going to be a little weird. I'm going to try to workout or walk every day. Walking and running is going to be a little weird though since I need to keep Pip on crate rest and I feel bad leaving her behind and taking everyone else.

Tricia ~ I hope you are back to 100% soon.

Jane ~ Yay! I'm glad you were able to get your swim in.

Cindi ~ I love my headlamps. Which one did you get?

Alisha ~ Hi!

Lisa

Lisa- I am so sorry about Pip! I hope she feels better soon.

Tricia- I like Step Works, good choice. I hope your <ahem> little issue feels better soon.

Jane- I think that swimming is possibly the most difficult of all the sports, I am so impressed with anybody who does it let alone for 3 min. at a whack! Ok, be honest, you're part fish, right? its ok, I'm cool with it:p

Cindi- I too suffer from a little digestion issue. oy vay! The funny part is that in my book club each one of us has a rare disease. :p

I totally forgot

I'm doing Step Moves again today. lol, I can't believe it, I went all the way over here to the Cathe check ins and all I did was personals

I did take a rest day yesterday. Running later this afternoon and then later tonight.

Lisa - I hope Pip Squeak feels better soon. :(

Good morning ladies,
Pip appreciates all the well-wishes and concern! She did a back summersault off the couch last night so I don't think she really understands the concept of rest. I guess its just not a cattledog thing :). We're trying though - I'm going to buckle down and crate her when any of the other dogs are loose. Its hard because she's such a tough little dog - she's happy to play through the pain.

I haven't worked out this morning since I'm not at home. My schedule is still a little weird. I hope to do Providence this afternoon when I go home to feed my cats. I did order AOS KBW Brooklyn this week when AOS had a 20% off sale. I've been wanting another dvd for months and finally bit the bullet and did it.

Jane ~ I'm in awe. I'm a point-to-point, I-swim-to-not-drown swimmer so I'm totally impressed. I also have a water-up-my-nose-means-I'm-dying phobia so I'm even more impressed. (And now I have those hang-ups out on the table!)

Hi everyone else!
Lisa

Wow! I've missed a lot somehow!

Lisa - I'm so sorry to hear about Pip Squeak! I hope she "learns" to rest so she can heal! I hate leaving one of mine at home too when I go out! As much of a pain it is, I'd rather take both of the beagles or neither of them than just one! They are like having six dogs at the same time! Yikes!

I'm with you about swimming, too, Lisa! If I get even a tiny bit of water in my nose or mouth, I'm flailing! My DH is like Aquaman! I swear he's hiding gills somewhere on his body!

Alisha - I hope you enjoyed Step Moves! I focus a lot on the personals, too! I hate to miss anyone or anything!

Cindi - Hope your runs went well! When is your relay race again?

Didn't get any sleep last night because it was so hot upstairs! We reached over 90 degrees yesterday and our house does not have a/c. DH put the window unit in when he got home from school, but it barely cooled things down! Then a thunderstorm started and my little Peanut freaked out for an hour or so! I did not get up for my workout. It's cooled down considerably today, so we should all rest better tonight! I'm up in the morning - promise!

Hi Ladies!

Lisa - forgot to answer your question. I have a petzl brand (tiny little guy) -http://www.rei.com/product/786024

I can't swim either - it's embarrassing but I've always been really uncomfortable in the water. I can swim enough to (maybe) get myself out of the deep end but I would be in serious trouble if I had to tread water or swim any distance. I was really adamant that the kids get lots of lessons. They are great swimmers. This is why I have a big floaty belt for my deep water running :)

My relay is June 11/12 - soon! We start in Madison WI at 7 am and hope to arrive in Chicago the next day around 6 pm.

Ran 4 yesterday afternoon and 3 this morning. Planning to do a triple over the weekend (morning, evening, morning). Have a great Memorial day everyone!

I'm taking a yoga day. I've been awfully nauseous since yesterday. I can't figure it. I guess it was something I ate on Wednesday night at my book club mtg. I will catch up on personals tomorrow.

Alisha

Hi Everyone,

I missed posting yesterday. I was at work but had to leave to take care of mom. She experienced some bad side effects from her injection on Monday. She is much better today.

I did workout yesterday. I did an upper body and ab workout. Today is a rest day.

I have been swimming since I was a little girl. My parents were adamant about us learning to swim because they could not. So it's their fault that I am part fish! :p I didn't swim for a long time though but now I have access to a pool for the summer. Alisha, a couple of time I was dog paddling to make it to the 3 minutes. I'm a good swimmer but my form needs work.

Lisa ~ Hope Pip is doing better today!

What is everyone's plan for the long weekend? The only thing I have planned is a 8K race on Monday. I'll probably be swimming lots this weekend.

Alisha - I hope you feel better soon! I'd rather just puke than be nauseous.

Cindi - That's getting really close! Are you getting the jitters yet? You shouldn't be embarrassed about your swimming skills. We started taking lessons in Japan, but then I had an incident with a nail in a bamboo pole I was "vaulting" with and stabbed myself in the leg and had to have stitches! Needless to say, I missed the rest of swim lessons that summer, then we moved to New Hampshire and we were right on the ocean, so . . . no more lessons!

Jane - I'm glad your mom is feeling better today! I hope she doesn't get that reaction again!

Well, tomorrow is our 9th wedding anniversary, so we're going to pick up Indian food, an ice cream cake from Cold Stone Creamery, a nice bottle of wine and celebrate at home. Other than that, no real plans. Probably just lounge and goof all weekend!

My DH ordered me the Club Step for my anniversary present! Yippee! I got him some iTunes credit. We usually don't do gifts, but because our big joint present we usually do each year is on hold until our financial situation improves, we decided to do small gifts.

I can't wait for my new step! I've had mine for over 20 years! Yes, it's one of the first Reebok steps that ever came out! LOL! It isn't adjustable above 10" and you can't add risers of any kind, plus the step surface is getting slick, finally. I must say it has been a great step to have lasted that long! I suspect my new one will be the last one I'll need to get if it lasts as long as my Reebok one did! I'm so excited! He asked me if that was okay for a present and I was like - DUH!!!

Everyone have a great Memorial Day weekend and remember our fallen and disabled vets! Keep our current serving military in your thoughts and prayers too!

Good morning ladies,
I didn't get a chance to workout yesterday but I spent some quality time digging big holes in my rocky new perennial flower garden. I think that counts as something. I noticed that the kbs have made swinging the mattock a whole lot easier. This morning I'm going to do High and Tight and then I'm going to try to run this afternoon. It's so hard having a dog out of commission - I hate to leave them home. Pip is doing okay but resenting the crate rest.

Cindi - I love your little headlamp. I have had several of the older, larger Petzl headlamps and have been eyeballing the little one in the outdoor stores.

I'm glad to know I'm not alone Tricia and Cindi. I've often wondered if there are swimming classes for grown ups.

Tricia - Have a great anniversary!!

Jane - I hope your mom is doing better. Swim a couple of laps for me.

Alisha - I hope you are feeling better.

Lisa

Lisa- I would resent it if you put me on crate rest.

I'm about to go do a joggle (new word, just invented it just now.) I'm going to aim for closer to 60 min. I have no idea the mileage cause with these serious hills I'm never close to a 12 min. mile so I will know when I am done, I guess.

Hi everybody.

Lisa - I'm with Alisha on that one! Gardening would definitely count as a workout in my book! That's a lot of work! I don't do any, but I've watched my parents and other people do it! LOL!

Our lovable pets don't understand that they have to lay off an injury, so we have to do what we have to do so they will cooperate. It's hard.

Alisha - I like it! What a great word! So, enjoy your joggle today!

I'll post later IF I get my run in! (I tend to get lazy on Saturdays!)

I tried really hard to rest Pip without crating her but with her level of pain tolerance and energy and four other dogs (I'm dogsitting this week) it just wasn't possible. I'm trying to give her as much spoil time as possible - taking her to work with me, etc - but she's still not happy. It's tough love though. I want her little ACL to heal so she can run and play later.

I love the word "joggle" too. Hope everyone enjoys their runs. I want to do CC V3 this evening if it doesn't rain.

Lisa

I did 20 minutes of Zumba from a youtube clip linked on the VF forum. Then Ben and I did CC V3 on the rail trail. Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

Lisa

Lisa- I hope Pip is feeling better. Give her hugs for me.

Tricia- Congrats on the anniversary present! I too have an old reebok step. I got it back when I was a teen. It was a present from Dad. I use my circuit size step now because my room is a little bit small. But, hey I get privacy and I can workout anytime I want, so no real complaints there.

Jane- I hope your Mom is feeling better after those injection side effects. I'm sending warm fuzzy healing vibes her way right now.

Cindi-I'm so excited about your race, I think I'm living vicariously!

Today is a yoga day. Its my Dad's birthday which is a very difficult day because he hates birthdays, especially his. We pretend it didn't happen and try to avoid him at all costs. Of course, I did bake a cake. I won't be eating it, but hey its there waiting if he should be hungry. Its a lemon coffee cake, two layers, with a lemon cream cheese icing in the middle and a lemon/brown sugar/oatmeal crumble on top.

I was so good, I had a plain yogurt with a few dried cranberries for breakfast. I like the Mountain High brand. Its not too tart. And at 11 grams of carbs per cup I get my probiotics and I don't feel guilt.

This morning in my back yard was a coyote with something white and fluffy in his jaws. I think it was an elderly cat because none of the birds in the neighborhood are white. My cat is dark so I'm sure it wasn't my cat but I think it was the neighbor's across the street. Poor kitty:(
