NEW RUNNERS MAY 2010

Good Monday Morning Ladies!

I had a hair appointment Saturday so I am actually wearing it down today instead of in a ponytail. I'm feeling very girly. :) We had a really busy weekend - David had lots of table tennis stuff, Paul had some scouting stuff and Honor had lots of cello including a recital. Tomorrow Honor and David turn 13 - YIKES! Thursday Pete has a birthday - don't tell him I told you...he's going to be 47. :)

The 5K was great. Beautiful whether and the course was along a river in a park setting. Really nice. David ran it in less than 24 minutes. I was at 31:02. I wanted to get closer to 30 but my asthma kicked in in the final mile and I had to walk to stop wheezing - bummed me out, but it was still a lot of fun. Pete, Honor, and Paul had a great time walking. There were three other women from work who participated - they ran/walked. And others from the 5K program came out to support them. It was nice.

Jane - I don't think the C25K program was as successful as I would have hoped. We had 17 participants but most folks used part of the program and also did their own thing. I recieved a lot of positive feedback on the information they received and the weekly discussions so that was good. I think they all appreciated having all the information and resources available even if they didn't start and finish the program - they can always go back to it. How was your 5K?

Tricia - HI! Sounds like you are having some fun with the drinking :). I have a sewing machine I never use - I would sell it to you if you were closer. It's a Viking. Nice machine. Maybe someday Honor will want to use it. I think I get it out maybe once a year. Sewing is not my thing. I'm 44 and clothes shopping is hard - I agree. My friend really likes Coldwater Creek but I think it's a little old looking. I really like The Loft and Anthropologie (if you can find stuff on sale).

Lisa - Horseriding, Kayaking, Fishing - sounds so nice!

Alisha - :) Yes - if I ran 3 miles twice, it is 6 miles - but since I ran 3 in the morning and 3 in the evening, I didn't want to mislead anyone into thinking I ran 6 miles. Did you get a workout done?

So, to catch up on my workouts - Friday was spin and upper body weights and core, Saturday was rest. Sunday was the 5K then last night I ran 3 again.

Today is spin and abs hopefully.

Hi Everyone,

I had a busy weekend. It started off early with a 5K race. I did pretty good. I ran in my usual range but nothing spectacular. The race was mainly flat but had lots of twists and turns. I felt good in the beginning but hit the skids around the 2.5 mile mark. It was a beautiful morning so it was great to be out there and run.

Then I went to mom's house and helped her and my sister make a birthday cake for our other sister. It was fun. Mom is doing well but her hair keeps falling out. She is very interested in this process and is happy that she no longer has to shave her chin hairs!!! :D:D Mom always finds the silver lining.

Yesterday morning I ran 8 miles. It was a rough 8 miles but I got in done. I used my camelback and LOVED it. At least it felt a bit heavy in the beginning but of course it got lighter as I ran. I also like the fact that it has 2 other pockets for keys, cell phone, gels, etc. Then I came home and cleaned my messy house. :( It wasn't fun but the results were made me feel better! :)

I'm busy at work today. I have a boring meeting to attend in about 15 minutes. I'll try to BBL.

pepper

As I was cutting up some green peppers for my omelet yesterday I must have touched my face because I got a nasty chemical burn around my nose/mouth. We think that because I was still in my sunscreen that the two interacted to make the equivalent of pepper spray. I was in so much pain I would have cried but I was afraid that the tears would spread the carnage. Instead I took to the couch, took 800 mg. of motrin, and an ice pack. The ice pack was the only thing that really helped. By 2 pm things were better, but gee whiz, what a waste of a perfectly nice day! I am so glad I got my run in first and the dishes done :p

Today is going to be some yoga. Plenty of time on the computer editing video and its time to do some laundry.

Tricia- You are so right about that, I used to be so diligent about setting up for the next day and I've gotten out of practice.

Cindi- I love that first day after a hair appointment, I always look and feel great for at least 12 hours. I would have liked to hear Honor's cello recital. Is that her name? Does that mean that every class she takes is honors? :p Sorry, I used to be an honors student and we know the silliest jokes. I think her name is really cool. I'm sorry about your asthma. Your race sounds awesome! Happy birthdays all around:)

Jane- I think I would be ecstatic if I didn't have to get out the old tweezers and remove those pesky hairs! My cousin's hair did grow back after each round of chemo (I think she had three different sets) and each time it was different, once it was red, the other time was blond and the last time was black and curly.

Lisa- How are you doing?

I'm back and survived the meeting.

Here is my workout for today:

"Lucky Sevens"
7 exercises, 7 reps, 7 rounds.
I changed some of the exercises from the original

Swings 7r/7l
Squat Thrusts
KB Suitcase Deadlifts
Squat Jumps
Triple Crush
KB Thrusters 7r/7l
Walkouts

Alisha ~ Sorry to hear about your run in with the green pepper. Those peppers can be quite a pesky. :p I'm glad things are better today!

My mom is hoping for blonde curly hair. She doesn't like her hair anyway. I doubt it will come in blonde but I'm hoping for curly.

Cindi ~ Good job with the 5K!! I'm glad everyone enjoyed it. Happy Birthday to Honor and David!

I can never find any decent work clothes. I like simple, easy dresses with sleeves. I don't like belted dresses and I like them to be machine washable. I found some nice dresses online at Macy's last year but this year they have nothing work appropriate (necklines cut down too low). I did find 2 dresses from Coldwater Creek. I also think they go the "old" route but these 2 dresses were really nice and I got compliments on both. I also got $30 off and free shipping!

Hi to Tricia and Lisa!

Hi ladies,
I did two rides on Saturday, two rides on Sunday and one this morning. I rode a new horse this morning and lets just say he was interesting and needs a little work :D. I haven't been kettlebelling regularly for the last month or two and I can feel the difference. When I'm doing Providence once or twice a week, any amount of riding doesn't wear out my thighs/hamstrings but I'm noticing this time. I need to work that back into my schedule. I've been doing mostly BBL for the last two months but haven't even done that this week. I'm thinking about doing Sculpt and High and Tight today and tomorrow. I don't know which one I'll do when though or if I'll do them at all, it just depends on how I feel ;).

Jane ~ Here's hoping your mom gets curly hair. She has quite the indomitable spirit. Congrats on some nice runs and I'm glad you like your Camelback.

Cindi ~ Congrats on your race and you can't determine the success of your C25K program based on who finished the race. You know that what you taught them along the way is the most important part. Your community is lucky to have someone as willing to give and be involved as you are.

Alisha ~ Sorry to hear about the peppers. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Tricia ~ I'm glad you had fun wine tasting. Shopping is always a challenge for me too. I love Athleta and Title 9 for workout clothes but find professional clothes much more challenging. Luckily my field is pretty laidback and I can get away with Eddie Bauer, etc.

My brother sent me some photos from our fishing trip on Friday that I just had to share. The first one is him and I holding a dolphin. He and I were both reeling a fish in and when it got to the boat we realized this fish had eaten both baits so it was really a joint effort. It's kind of funny because he and I have always had a challenging relationship and have never worked together on anything before but we did it this time. The second one is a great picture that he took of me with a dolphin that I caught.

Hi Ladies!

Cindi - Great 5K! The route sounds lovely! I'm sure your hair looks fantastic! Mine looks good that day, then goes right back to the way it was! Pffft! I wish I could buy your sewing machine too! Shipping would be high and the fact that I don't have the funds right now! Oh, well.

Jane - Any race finished is a good race! WTG on your 5K! Sounds like you had fun with your mom and sister! I, too, shall keep my fingers crossed that your mom gets the curly hair she wants when it grows back!

Lisa - Lots of riding for you! Fun! When I change workouts, I can also tell the difference! Get back on those KBs! We'll just have to wait patiently for those pics!

Alisha - Ouch! I've never had that happen! That must have been just awful with that pepper! The answer is gloves! Yeah, like I use them either!

It was TT Workout B this morning for me and I went out and did the intervals! I'm still doing other cardio on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I just can't workout only 3 days a week! That worked initially, but not now.

I am such a picky shopper when it comes to clothes. I think it goes in phases, too. For a while, I can always find something I like when I look and then, poof, nothing for a while. Just got to wait it out again, I guess.

Have a great night everyone!

Lisa- Hi!

Tricia- For professional clothing I go to Dressbarn, its very conservative but sometimes thats the look. What kind of clothing are you looking for?

Jane- I am looking forward to seeing the two of you holding a dolphin:eek:

Cindi- How is it going?

I'm about to go for a jog. Its nice and cool out there. It did rain yesterday so the ground is a little damp. But, the temperature is good. See you on the road! My face is feeling better.

Alisha

Hi ladies! Spin last night.

Alisha - I'm sorry about your face - OUCH! But it does remind me of that joke...'Hey, does your face hurt? Because it's killing me!' har har har. :) I just got a new catalog from King Arthur Flour and they have a bunch of gluten free products now - made me think of you.

Jane - those pics sound pretty cool! Hope you can load them. Thanks for the review of the camelback. Sounds great.

Lisa - thanks for the kind words. :)

Tricia - I experience the same thing - I was out shopping with a couple friends a few weeks ago and nothing really appealed to me. It comes and goes.

Ok, after consulting with my tech support (my brother :D) I've managed to resize and post my pics. So here they are. Jim and I with the dolphin we both caught and a pic of me and one of my dolphins.

My morning ride got rained out but I haven't done anything productive yet other than feed the horses and take temps/medicate the sick guys and wash some clothes. I keep telling myself I'm going to get up and work out but it hasn't happened yet...

Hi Ladies,

The pool is open for the season! Yay!!! I'm going swimming tonight. I'm so excited!! I was going to swim intervals but since it's been a while, I think I will just swim for 45 minutes or so.

Lisa ~ Fantastic photos! The second picture with the dolphin is beautiful.
I'm sorry your morning ride got rained out. Enjoy your day no matter what you decide to do or not do!

Cindi ~ I'm looking forward to my King Arthur catalog, if only to look at the pictures! :D:D I love their stuff.

Alisha ~ How was the jog?

Hi Tricia!

Hope everyone has a great day!

Jane- The Jog was awesome! I'm improving. My intervals are getting longer and easier. Yippee!

Lisa- What great pictures and what a gorgeous fish!!

Cindi- King Arthur is a neat co. for those of us gluten free.

Tricia- Hi!

I'm taking today as a yoga day. No really, I mean it. lol. Its pms (sorry for the tmi) and I just need a bit of fiery krias I guess:D

Good morning ladies!

Last night I ran about 45 minutes and then went to spin class. My legs were beat! Weights today - probably travel fit.

I was going to try Cathe's pyramid run she posted yesterday but decided I should save it for tomorrow since I was doing spin on top of running yesterday.

Lisa - great pictures! What kind of dolphin is that? It looks like a fish. EDITED TO ADD: I figured it out - it's Mahi-Mahi (dolphinfish). I knew I was missing something - because you wouldn't be fishing for the mammal Dolphin as in Flipper. :) I was confused!

Jane - have fun swimming! I know what you mean about their catalog. Makes you want to bake. Honor said she wants to make bread every weekend now. She made bread again last weekend - a loaf of regular wheat and a loaf of wheat swirled with pecans/cinnamon/sugar.

Alisha - great job on the jog!!!

Tricia - HI!

It rained last night (right went I got home ) so no swim last night. Of course it stopped raining about 30 minutes later.:mad: So I ended up taking a rest day because I was total body sore.

Tonight it's a 4 mile run and it better not rain. We are starting the summer cycle of afternoon showers.

Alisha ~ Great job on the jog yesterday. I started doing intervals for my longer runs because I was struggling and walking too much. It has definitely helped my focus and keeps me on task.

Cindi ~ I used to bake all the time but then stopped b/c I didn't want to eat everything I made. I want to get back to it. I miss it. To guarantee I won't eat it, I usually make stuff I don't like.

Hi Tricia and Lisa!!

Hi everyone!

Got sidetracked again last night, so I didn't post!

Lisa - Great pics! You look like you two were having so much fun!

Alisha - Glad your burn is feeling better! You know, when I shop for clothes, I'm never looking for a particular style, just something that catches my eye and appeals to me. Guess that makes it even harder!

Jane - Sorry you didn't get your swim in! Don't you hate it when the weather turns right after you've either done something else or gotten too comfortable? Happens here a lot in the summer!

Cindi - Wow! You are kicking butt and making me feel lazy! LOL! Let me know how you like that treadmill pyramid workout when you do it! I won't be able to try it because I don't have a cardio machine, but I'd still like to know your thoughts on it!

I'm still in the throes of Turbulence Training - second week. This 20 minute workout is taking me 40 minutes! I think my reps should be faster, but I like to utilize as many muscle fibers as possible rather than use momentum in my weight workouts. Didn't get my sprints in today though. The weather has been nasty since yesterday and cold! Gosh darn it! Finally, tomorrow we'll be back in the mid 70s!

Can't remember what I have on the schedule for tomorrow for cardio, but I did IMAX 2 Intervals 1-6 yesterday!

When am I going to learn to stay over here and out of the other forums? It's all breaking loose again!

I just love our little happy "running" group! Never any controversy or complaints - sigh . . . pure bliss!

Anyway, I'm sidelined ladies. Yesterday morning I pulled a spot in my back just reaching across the counter. It wasn't too bad. I was hurting some and a bit stiff, but still made it in to work and got through the day with an Ibuprofen I took at lunch. All I did last night was cook dinner. Well, I woke up around 4 this morning in so much pain! I turned off my alarm and did not get up for my workout. I managed to ooze out of bed at 7:30 and call in to work. I fed kitty and sat down on the couch and other than making breakfast, that's where I've been all morning.

It hurts! It hurts! IT HURTS, gosh darn it! Every once in a while I do this. It's really aggravating. When DH gets back from his run, I'm going to try to take a shower and get him to rub some blue gel stuff I have that's supposed to be good for this type of thing and see what happens. This needs to resolve quickly! I have a friend coming in to town tomorrow night for a visit and I still have to do the "company is coming cleaning!" Ouch!

Argggghhhhh . . . . . .!

Tricia - YES, a small firestorm was released on the Open Discussion Forum (and the color commentary is on VF). I like this running group too. :)

I hope your back feels better - that sucks. I have off and on back issues and know how you feel. I hope it goes away fast!

I ended up not doing weights yesterday - I did my first run today - easy 3. I'm going to try Cathe's Pyramid run tonight.

Enjoy your day everyone!

Hi ladies,
I went fishing again yesterday (when I should have been driving home to go back to work). We had a fabulous day and one of the guys caught a 300# blue marlin. I managed to take some pretty cool pics of it next to the boat. It was really great. I drove home today. Yesterday and today I ate totally crappy. Between that and not working out for a week, I need to get back on track.

Tricia ~ I'm so sorry to hear about your back! Have you tried a chiropractor before? I swear by mine when my neck goes out. What is turbulence training?

Cindi ~ You're so right! I just barely started looking at some of those threads and just wandered right out again and back over here. And yes, they are dolphin fish (aka dorado or mahi mahi) not porpoises. I should have been more explicit. I annoy the heck out of the waitresses at my favorite restaurant up here because I always say dolphin instead of mahi mahi when I order and I think it freaks some of them out. They were historically called dolphin until someone thought that renaming them would make mass marketing easier. I guess it was the same people who decided that prunes are now "dried plums".

Jane ~ Ack, sorry about the rain. Hope you get your run in tonight. We got caught in a nasty squall out on the ocean yesterday - very exciting in a scary sort of way.

Alisha ~ How are you doing? Dolphin are my favorite fish because they are beautiful, fun to catch and oh-so-yummy too!

I guess I need to get out of fishing/horseback riding mode and back into work mode but I don't want to.
