New Member to Cathe Club

Good Morning,
I am full time student and using summer vacations to get in shape for all the damage done throughout the year. I am an intermediate exerciser and new to Cathe Club. I read some reviews on videofitness and find them quite compelling and very positive. However, since i have never used Cathe's tapes before and am, as mentioned earler, and intermediate stepper, i would like to invite suggestions as to which Cathe video i should pick up first.

I am 5 ft , 5.5 inches tall and weigh in 130 lbs. I have to lose quite a bit of fat and am interested in building muscle.

I do step for 40 mins everyday and do strength training once a week. once a week i do a hit of yoga and fridays are my cheat days. I am still working on, quite unsuccesfully quitting candies. I do eat alot of protein. and do not eat dry carbs after 4pm.

Anybody out there who remembers their novice days willing to help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Aisha

Hi New Member,

Welcome! I would like to suggest Step Jam or Step Heat. Both are good workouts and the choreography will serve as a nice introduction to Cathe's style.

Especially, be sure to look into Cathe's strength tapes. In my opinion, they're the best! I suggest the Pure Strength series and Power Hour or Muscle Endurance as good places to begin.

Wishing you good health.

Hi Aisha! Welcome to Cathe-Land! You are in for a real treat. The beginning of No-Return! I just posted to another new gal about the same question. I will copy & paste it here:

I think that the Wedding vid and also MegaStepBlast are two good starters. The Wedding vid also has weight work with it which is easier then the newer Cathe tapes to get you back into the swing so that is a double bonus. Since you said you do step, I am assuming you are familiar with basic moves so I think that these two tapes will be fine. There might be a move or two that will trip you up at first but you will catch on very quick. (Miss Two-Left Feet here, talking from past experience!) Good Luck, welcome and let us know what you decide.

I also think that the PS Series is an excellent place to start with strength work. You can lower your weights if you find it too challenging at first. I also think MIS is a good starter for a newbie. Have fun!!!

The Old Standby...

I recommend "Get In Shape For Your Wedding". It's two workouts in one. It's my standard "come back" tape after being lazy or coming back from a cold. The weight workout is a total body workout and the step aerobics section is also and introduction-like section to Cathe. Hope this helps...

:D

Welcome to the forums, Aisha!

I would definitely recommend adding another day of weight trainig to your workouts. Full-body workouts that would be good are Power Hour or Maximum Intensity Strength.

Good Mornig Kathryn,

hanks for the advice. Do you know which videos offer floor leg exercises. Since I do step workouts, i dont want to overdo my knee joints by doing standing leg exercises.

Thanks again
Aisha:)

RE: The Old Standby...

Good Morning Donna Marie,

I think i will start with the wedding video since i am only an intermediate/lo advanced exerciser. I am also getting treatment for plantar fascitis.

Aisha:)

Good Morning DebbieH,

I think i will start with the wedding vid. I have a question though. I wanted to know if you know of a good floor leg exercise vid. Since i will be doing hi impact on the step, i'd like to save my knee joints.

Anything besides Cathe workouts will be good though i cant wait till the wedding vid gets here.

Starting slow but steady :D

Cathe's Pure Strength Legs and Abs has a great floor section- the second half of the video. Also, her Pyramid Lower Body has a floor work section with the stability ball. I heard that the wedding vid has floor work- am I right? And a very old Cathe video called Rock Bottoms!

Other good floor work in my opinion is found on The Firms Volume 1 (Body Sculpting Basics) the second half of the video starting with push-ups. Their floor work is best done without weights (they use ankle weights) if you have any problems with your knees or even if not. It's intense and effective with or without weights.

Also good is the Firm, Vols 2 and 3 floor sections. The Firm also has a floor work only tape, calles Sculpted Buns Hips and Thighs. I do not have this video but I wish I did. It's a compilation of floor sections from a few Firm videos.

Floor leg work is underrated and I enjoy its results.

Hi Aisha~Connie pretty much summed up the tapes I woud have suggested to you. One other tape that is very intense for floorwork is a VERY old Buns of Steel tape with Greg Smithey. It is quite outdated as far as clothes go, but a very challenging workout. Good Luck with your decisions and also your PF. Hope you heal soon.
