Hi All,
Today was my first post EVER on a website! I responded to Murph's Injured Athlete thread. :-. Very shy...
I have been reading some of your topics and I am in awe of your knowledge about fitness. Wow! I'm grateful to Cathe, not only for her dedication to fitness and her excellent videos (since starting using her videos in March, I'm finally trimming off those abominable abs)but also because this is a wonderful website. I've learned so much from all of you in such a short time. I won't be able to contribute much if anything to this forum but I know I will learn from your input. :).
My question on Murph's thread was; have any of you ever experienced an injured pectoral muscle due to too heavy of a weight and if so, did you still continue to do your cardio aerobics or rested completly?
I've been exercising 6-7 days a week since 1989, I've had injured hamstrings, calves, ankles over the years, but this is a first for the pecs..lol
Like you, I'm looking forward to Cathe's new videos.
Yours in fitness
Wanda

Never had o torn pec muscle but I have had a pulled back muscle. It took so long to heal. If the cardio doesn't aggravate it, continue doing it as much as possible. The increased blood flow faciltates healing. Gently stretching is also good but only to the point that feels good to the muscle. The key is not to get frustrated. It took my back almost a year to heal and it was discouraging but I continued to exercise as much as I could. Good luck! Cyndie

Hi Wanda!

Just wanted to WELCOME you and say that you found yourself a great place to come and we're glad to have you join us! Also, I am sure there will be lots that you can contribute to the site, even if you're shy.:-shy We all have knowledge in different areas and that's what's so nice about checking in here. There is always someone to help or even give encouragement. I have never had a pectoral injury but just came out of a two month situation with an elbow injury. I just worked "around" the injury. In other words, I did only lower body strength work that did NOT involve using my elbow, such as lifting a heavy barbell over my head. I discontinued upper body strength work til it healed. Luckily, I was able to continue my cardio, with the exception of kickbox because of the punching. This may be more info then you wanted but I just wanted to give you an idea of what I did while injured. Good Luck. I hope you heal fast and again, we're glad to have you join us!!:7

RE: Hi Wanda!

Hey Wanda!
Welcome to the best forum on the web! These people are warm, generous & extremely helpful. You couldn't have come to a better place for encouragement & help with fitness. I have no doubt you will have things to say sooner or later.
I've also never had an injured pec but have two injuries I am working around now, shoulder & elbow. With good advice from Debbie H (hi Deb!), I am barely using them, & making sure anything I do that involves them is light or no weights. I have started icing them whenever they hurt or whenever I think about it! It's highly annoying because I love working with heavy weights & only do cardio under protest!
I also agree with Cyndie that gentle stretching helps a lot - I think it has helped me more than anything else, especially in the shoulder.
That's probably more than you wanted to know from me too, but I hope your injury will heal quickly. If there is no improvement perhaps a Dr. who does sports medicine? I've been thinking about that for myself.
Again, glad to have you here! Take care,
Ruth

RE: Hi Wanda!

Thank you so much Cyndie, Debbie and Ruth for your advise and encouragement. I like learning things so your comments can never be too wordy for me.)
I have mild lupus, mostly in my knees and it has in the past gone through my eyes. Over the years I have found that cardio workouts help increase my endorphins so much, the pain diminishes. Lunges and dips helps build my connective tissue (which is what lupus seems to settle on) that if I miss out on doing them over a week, my knees start to buckle. Too much longer of no workouts, then I am unable to walk.
Because now my eyes are now super sensitive to the outdoors, and my knees can't take a constant repeatitive motion as in walking a distance or running, I start to panic if I can't do my videos.
I wish I had known about Cathe alot sooner because she has the exact kind of cardio I need plus her weight work is done at just the right speed.
I'll continue to ice up and try to do some stretching this afternoon. Thanks for making me feel welcome.
Wanda

Hi Wanda,
Welcome, welcome, welcome!!!! You're just in time for the new videos!!!!

And hey, don't be shy!
I'm shy in real life too. That's one reason I love this forum. Nobody is looking at me, so I don't have to be shy!
