New Jari Love workout

I just received the new Jari Love workout - Ripped 1000 or something like that. I have to say that I really like it. I will add it to my rotation. Did anyone else get it?? I was wondering if you are enjoying it as much as I am.

Jane-
I have it but its going to have to wait about 10 weeks.... I just started P90 rotation 2 weeks ago. I also am still waiting on Ripped & Chiseled. Please let me know how you like 1000.... Will you be doing it as part of Jari rotation or just in addition to Cathe?

I've received it and previewed it, but haven't done it yet (I'm doing a rotation using mostly Cathe's new wokrouts). It does look good, though the transitions (or lack of) before each cardio segment are annoying (step is horizontal at end of warm-up, then you come back to the first cardio segment, with the camera on Jari's face, and when you start moving, you realize the step should be vertical now!)

One thing I did notice that bothered me: Jari's ribcage! She seems too lean in this one (like much of her 'muscle' definition is like that of Pamela Anderson: visible only because she has a very low boyd fat percentage). I'm hoping it won't be a distraction when I actually do the workout.

This is a review I read from videofitness.com:

I have always liked Jari Love's workouts, and this is an original and tough addition to the series. For almost an hour, you do weight segments interspersed with very short blasts of cardio. The cardio blasts are simple but tough, usually using the step (but somebody always shows floor-only modifications). Many of the cardio segments, i.e. the "football" drill on the step and the fast run up onto, then down off of, the step are repeated twice. Another includes jumping jacks on and off (straddling) the step, yet another is like the straddling fast toe taps that Cathe does in the IMAXes. There are also side to side lunges off the step and jump-rope. No cardio blast is more than maybe 2 minutes tops.

The weight leg segments are killer. In one, you do squats off the side of the step, then the back of the step -- then you add in front delt raises. In another, you do side abductors (standing on the step)with tricep french press. Non-step-utilizing segments include plie with bicep curls (LOTS of them)and the clean n press, which incorporates squats. Lots and lots of reps.

These segments are highly anaerobic! You also do a "pushup party" where Jari takes you through about 70 pushups, but done in decreasing sets (from 16 reps to 6 reps). There are also pulsing chest flies/chest presses, then a short ab workout.

Some of the music is recycled from Jari's older workouts, and some if it has been used in Cathe and other workouts.

Cons: They give you no warning about equipment changes for the next segment. I often had to pause in order to reposition the step (sometimes it's vertical, sometimes it's horizontal) or lay out my mat. I also did not ultimately feel as though my triceps got a good workout -- they are worked in combination with those abductors, so balance was more of an issue than working the muscle.

Instructor comments: Jari is as ever a calm, down-to-earth, soothing friendly presence. Those who don't like her constant talk of burning carbs, calories and "standing proud" won't be pleased. Personally, I don't mind it. She does have a phrase that sounded funny to me at first, something like "Good on you" at the end of various segments.

On a frivolous note, she's got curly hair now! :) She looks if possible even fitter and slimmer than she did in the earlier videos.

She occasionally asks "are you smiling?" and every time, the handsome male background exerciser behind her dutifully cracks a smile.

I received mine about a week ago and have done it twice. I absolutely LOVE it. The only thing I modify is the stretching after each cardio section. I just continue to do the cardio until they are done stretching. It is definitely my favorite of the three Jari workouts I have. Even though I love them all the cardio added to this workout makes it a step above Slim and Lean and RTTC (IMHO). :D

I love this workout! Then again, I love all of Jari's workouts, except for the original Ripped because I found it too easy. I know I burned some serious calories doing Ripped 1000, but I wouldn't consider it a muscle building workout because you really have to go light to maintain good form doing those compound moves. If you want more definition I'd get Slim and Lean.

I also don't stretch after each cardio. My heart rate is too high to just stop and stretch, so I continue to march or jog in place until she picks up the weights.

The only con about this workout is the recycled music. I wish Jari used music similiar to what she used in the original Ripped. That music was very motivating.

I just ordered Ripped 1000 too:) from amazon.com for $13.97 that include shipment, nice :p I never done her workouts but hear nice things about her. And boy is she thin x( looks as tho lost more weight. Thanks guys ;)

Hi Kathryn -
I know exactly what you mean by the camera not showing what is coming up next and all of a sudden you see that you should have had the step verital. There are a few things I didn't care for like the "nice on you" but overall I thought it was an excellent workout and I will be using it with my Cathe's but not a Jari rotation. I wasn't even aware she had a rotion. Is this on her website???

I assume those who are doing a "Jari rotation" just build their own rotations around her workouts. The only thing I've seen her mention is doing Ripped for something like 3 weeks before moving on to Slim and Lean, or something to that effect.

I received my workout yesterday, but am having some shoulder issues. After viewing the 70 plus push-ups I thought I had better wait a few days. The "good on you" phrase must be Canadian. I grew up in the same city Jari lives in---Calgary Alberta. I remember hearing that saying growing up. Charlene Pricket uses the "good on you" alot in her workouts too.

I guess I was a little disappointed in this workout. I felt like it had a lot of build up (burn up to 1000 calories--I burned 344) and the cover says it is about 70 minutes. Yeah, that includes all the other "stuff" she includes on her videos, the workout itself was about 55 minutes.

It is not a bad workout at all, just a letdown from the hype. I just left the step in one direction. If I was sideways to the TV, so be it--not like what you were doing was difficult from a choreography perspective (you do pretty much the same move for the entire time--about 30 seconds, I think. It seems like I was just getting into it, and we were moving on to weights).

I have found it interesting that Jari seems to try to emulate Cathe quite a bit (the biggest form of flattery, right?). Her website forums have nearly the same topics, she uses similar music--I about died when I heard the music from the CTX series on this, how old is CTX? The last straw was the "pyramid down" of 70 push-ups. Hmmmm, where have we seen that before?

I will continue to do this workout, making sure I use 2 risers on each side, but I was looking forward to something super tough and didn't find it. I was not sore in the least.

What is Ross? I just bought all 4 workouts for $6.50 each at deepdiscountdvds.com using the promotion code SUPERSALE.

Not a stupid question at all Jane. Ross is a deep discount department store. I mean really cheap name brand bargains can be found there.

>Okay, another stupid question..... what is Ross??

Thanks for the tip on Ross!! DH and I will be on that side of town tonight, so I will have to take a peek for it! I have been thinking about looking into some of Jari's stuff to add variety!
