New diet pill ad spokesperson

A rant:
I just saw a new ad for a diet pill, and the spokeswoman for it is Joan Van Ark. Remember her from that nighttime soap (the name of which I don't remember)? It looks to me that the only problem with weight she's ever had is possibly anorexia. She looks scarily thin, wan and drawn. Anyone who's ever seen her on TV would probably know she's never had problems with having to lose weight. Seems like an odd choice as a spokesperson for this product.

I've seen the infomercial, and what's so sad about it is that being 38 y/o, I know who Joan Van Ark is and that she's been rail thin for many years, but there is some very impressionable 20 y/o out there seeing that infomercial, who has never seen Joan Van Ark, who will believe from the inferrence, that this pill will make them as tiny as she.
I remember all too well being willing to try ANY pill, gimmick or gizmo that MIGHT make me lose weight. I think it's criminal that as a society we prey on each others vulnerablities the way we do. And it's not just weight loss products, it's breast enhancement pills, low testosterone~make your penis grow 5" more pills, etc. Whatever vanity or frailty we have, there is someone pushing a "fake quick cure" for it and those most vulnerable fall for it only to be shattered (once again) when it fails to deliver its promise.
Those infomercials make me sad for those that will waste their money and another day hoping for a "quick fix."
