Nervous for tomorrow

NRG Woman

Cathlete
Tomorrow I am giving a lecture that is being filmed to be run (in infinitum) on cable. Originally I wasn't nervous since it is basically the information I give every day. I had lunch with a friend last Friday and she was quizzing me on the minutiae of the speech (what kind of mic, will there be a spot, will I be on a stage with a podium, are my clothes a solid color) that I usually roll with and don't really care much about. Since I had lunch with her now I am nervous. It is really silly since this is what I do every day, but I am sort of stuck now. Today and tomorrow morning I will go over the speech several more times and hopefully I will feel better tomorrow.

So wish me luck.

Good Luck Shayne! You'll do great! Just be you! It's natural to get nervous I would think ESP since it is being taped for cable....let us know when it airs! GOOD LUCK!!!!!

It went really, really well. The group really paid attention and was thoughtful about what I said. Apparently it will be played on the cable stations throughout our entire metro area for many years to come.

During the lecture I talked several times about how they could improve their quality of life with various exercises and put the onus on them to follow through. At the end the moderator asked how many people in the audience would change their behavior based on the lecture and all of them raised their hand. That was cool :D

:eek::eek:Shayne, that is awesome!! My DFIL is an example of what happens when you don't take care of your body while you're still able. :( He's 88 and bedridden--practically a prisoner in his own body. It's so sad to see as he's a wonderful man (I've been very fortunate to have terrific in-laws).

This is such a fantastic thing you're doing that will bring MANY people happier, more active lives. You go girl! :)

Joan - I am sorry to hear about your DFIL. It is so sad to see people we love becoming more and more frail. If you or DFIL are interested there is a fabulous book that may help. It is called Functional Fitness for Older Adults by Patricia A. Brill. The exercise program is meant to be used with elderly who have very little strength. There are even examples of people who moved from full time care to assisted living using the exercises outlined in the book. The publisher Human Kinetics has a whole series of really good books on older or frail populations and how to help become stronger.

I am sure he sees the wonderful example you are living with your lifestyle. If you can get him to listen to you and do some of the exercises I am sure he would feel much better in a fairly short amount of time.

Thank you for the book recommendation Shayne. I'll pass it on to my DMIL as she needs some help too.

Unfortunately for my DFIL, he's not someone to learn by example or to take advice. He didn't even do the recommended PT he needed after his strokes as "it was too much work"! We are a reflection of the choices we make every day, you know??
