Ok i need to get some opinions on this....I took a new job about a month ago....the job i was hirered for was as a Fund Accoutant in a small Accounting Firm. I was told that I was replacing a woman who had left due to a sick husband. Well Im there literally one week and guess who walks through the door of her/my office....the woman who had supposedly left. Apparently they thought she was gone she thought she was just taking time off....anyway...they gave her back her old job, and told me that there was plenty for me to do....but they gave me nothing and then had me sitting at the receptionist desk and after a bit I basically became the office support person...making copies, filing, and getting clients coffee!!!! This past week my boss called and told me he had to figure things out and that I should take the rest of the week off...well I went back today and was told that they didn't need me...when I asked if I would be paid for the time he made me stay home last week he said NO....I'm so upset...am I wrong in thinking he should pay me???
Thanks

Sorry for your experience. It sounds like the boss might have been TRYING to do the right thing by keeping you both on, and he obviously mishandled it terribly. Given such a bungled situation, paying you for those few days off would have been a nice gesture at least.

I'm so sorry you had to go through this. How does a company make a mistake between taking off time to care for a sick family member and someone quitting? At some point, wouldn't the boss mention her last paycheck, COBRA, something that would say you are not going to be here anymore.

I agree with Cathy that since they screwed up, they should have at least paid you for those days.
