Need workout Ideas!

I have had a stiff sore neck and tingles and numbness down my left arm for awhile now. I saw my doctor, had xrays (cervical spine stuff) and just went today for my first physical therapy appointment. I was anxious to come home and do a good workout today and I have off all weekend and was looking forward to some good workouts but, I have to stay low impact for awhile. I can lift weights, but am not allowed any shoulder work or Pilates type ab work (nothing that causes stress on my neck).:-( x( I am not happy and she understands my addiction and says she shares a love for fitness as well, but I need to be 100% before going back to high impact or I will do permanent nerve damage.

So what would be some good workouts that I can make low impact? Maybe if I lower my step that would work. My PT wasn't too thrilled with my ideas. She said a few days off is better than years off. I guess she got me there.

I have Intensities, Step Blast/SPJ, Imax/RS, MIC, Power Max, Body Max, IMax 2/CW, Imax 3, HSC, CK/CM. I also have other instructors like Christi, Mindy and Gin. Maybe some older Gin would work. I think Tae Bo is out of the question with the jabbing and all.

Sorry this is so long.

Can you walk? I've been doing intervals of fast walking, and it's an okay workout if you have to stop the good stuff for a while.

You must do what the docs say, though. If I had taken a week off in November 2003, I'd probably be able to run right now. Instead, I ran on a stress fracture and I'm still not back where I want to be (not to mention the cardiovascular conditioning loss!)

It's really hard to do, though. I'm sorry to hear you have to take it easy!! I'll keep you in my thoughts. They are telling you the truth, though, that it's better to take a few days off than risk years of pain and frustration!

Good luck!!:)

I have the basic step.. (it came w/ my step bench) and it's very very easy and low impact.. it's the only cathe DVD I have so when nothing is on TV for me to do I will do this and I will add my own high intensity to it.. it's a great workout and easy to follow.. w/ no jumping or anything like that.. it might be perfect for you. Also I agree w/ walking. Hope you heal quickly.

I have been thinking about the walking and doing some light weights this weekend. Unfortuneatly, we are suppose to get rain all weekend. This week has been beautiful and now rain. I also thought about taping some shows off Fittv. Many are low impact and that might be doable. Thanks for the advice.

I don't have any ideas, but I am glad you posted. I wondered how you were doing. I hope you recover quickly!

I hope the therapy takes care of your problem. Do you have a bike? Or would that put too much pressure on your shoulders? I have a feeling the walking suggestions are your best bet.
