Need to strategize my upcoming 5 mile

I'm signed up for a 5 mile run in SF December 18. Gulp. I don't know when the last time was I ran 5 miles! My dad is doing it with me and we have usually run a 10 min mile pace together in recent years.

I'm mainly just wanting to do some stuff to feel secure in the 5 miles in a few short days... any suggestions?? I can't run too many longer runs between now and then, as I need to allow at least 1 day in between runs for my leg these days. I've been doing IMax 3, but got a little sidetracked with exams.

I'm sure we'll do it just fine, but I still wanted a few suggestions. TIA! I'm really looking forward to this one- it should be so fun!!! If you'll be in/near SF come on out!! :)

Hi Amy, I'd say just run 3-4 miles 3 times a week until the 5 miler. Don't do any Imaxes the week before the 5 miler. Maybe some circuit workouts on the days you don't run, or just weights. I don't know what you normally do. Just enjoy the run with your Dad...:)...I'd love to have done that Amy...:)...Carole

LOL I should have just named this thread CAROLE... because you were who I was hoping would see it and respond, later here on the West Coast! ;)

Thanks. I've been trying to run a bit more than I've done this term, but have pretty much kept it at 4 miles or below. I don't really have too much of a "normal" routine... just work out 6 days a week, cardio every day, weights every other day. Been trying to keep the workouts manageable lately.

I'll ramp up the runs over the next couple weeks. Thanks Carole!

Amy...you are such a sweetie...:)...I know your schedule must be brutal. Running 4 miles and below will be fine. I know the feeling...normal is never the best description of what I do every day.Good luck and please keep us posted..:)...Carole
