Need Technical Advice on lunges

When doing lunges, the back leg works along with the front. In an effort to increase my right teardrop muscle, I've been doing extra lunges & step ups for the right leg and working it first. Results have been my right leg is 'more enduranced' than the left, but the left teardrop has increased more. Also, I tend to feel the work of the lunge in the back leg as much or more than on the front leg. Is my form wrong? I'm faithful to use the 90 degree rule. Should I switch and work the left leg forward first? I'm afraid doing that will cause the left to get bigger yet.
When I do step ups, should I only do the right side? Again, I fear making it even more 'enduranced' than the left.

Can anyone help?
Thank you in advance.

I wouldn't recommend working one side and not the other. You may develop some kind of muscle imbalance. If you already have an imbalance, I would suggest, as you have mentioned, that you work the weak side first, and use the number of reps you can do on that side as a guide to how many reps you'll do on the other side.
